This thread is strictly to be used for the reporting of bugs in the public beta of Solaris Skunk Werks, as well as feature & function suggestions for the same.

When reporting, please be as clear and concise as possible, with a step by step walkthrough of what caused the bug if possible. Also, SSW does produce it's own error log in "SSWlog.txt". Open this file and paste the contents in your post.

When making a suggestion, please be descriptive as possible of the change or improvement you would like to see. Remember that this is LostInSpace's program, done with his own personal time, effort, and taste. Do not be offended if he says No.

Finally, please keep the non-bug/suggestion related posts to a minimum. Discussion of the program that falls outside of bugs or suggestions should be done in the programs original thread, found HERE.

Solaris Skunk Werks can be downloaded at the following link:

Ok, been lurking long enough. I downloaded the designer and gave it a whirl. As someone who doesn't run Windows, it's very welcome. TDB runs fine in WINE, but is rather outdated (no TW for example), and the Heavy Metal suite is somewhat unstable in WINE ( OpenGL errors apparently. Opening files always crash the app ). SSW, with one exception, works very nice so far. The only thing I see so far is when designing quads. You can set it for quad, but the app still designs a biped.
Other than that, thanks and good job

I'm confirming that the quad mechs criticals are incorrect. All of the crits such as engine, gyro, ect. don't show up and the crits for the arms don't change to be legs. I don't normally mess around with making quad mechs so I didn't catch this glitch or error in the alpha and nonpublic betas. Good job lucho on catching the error. It might be as simple as the quad mechs not being (fully) implemented yet or it could be and error. We will have to wait for word from Lost In Space.

Ah, just downloaded the program. Off-the-bat, I found one thing that I would change were it up to me. When determining armor, you've got a percentage rating when you tell the prog how much tonnage you wish to allocate, and you can set the default to prioritize torso, or limbs...but I'd LOVE to see an indicator for each armor location that tells me how much armor PERCENTAGE wise, of THAT locations total max. Does that make sense? Some indicator to tell me if I've maxed out a locations armor capacity.

So far, that's all I've found. I'll let you know if I find anything else. (honestly, I love to create 'Mechs, but, I don't remember crap about the creation rules, so, if any of that stuff is wrong, I wouldn't even know! LOL. Yeah, I'm mostly useless!)

Lucho, great to see someone using a non-standard OS! That's one of the big reasons I went with Java.

The problem was a bone-headed mistake caused by copy-paste between the Quad and Biped code. There is very little difference between the code, but any mistake within those differences kills the quad stuff. I don't build quads so I missed it. In addition, I added some extra HTML tags to support Quad export and messed with the text exporter to provide the same thing. Let me know what you think.

New version (0.4.02) is up right now.

Einherjar, I know exactly what you are asking for. It's not impossible and I will do it, but it's low on the list. For now remember that you can have double the internal points in armor on a location. I provide the internal points on the armor distribution screen, so just multiply by two and you can see how much armor you can allocate.

Captain, did it generate a log file? If so, copy and paste the contents into a post here. If not, what are the symptoms? how are you trying to load it?

Clicking the link
In the dialog box that pops up, clicking open
Winzip expired "Use evaluation version"
"SSW.jar"
And then...nothing.
I try any non-text option and no loading screen appears. What am I doing wrong?

Captain, download the file to your desktop, don't try to open it. Once it's there, unzip it and place the folder on your desktop. You need to uncompress the file before you can use it. Then open the SSW folder and double click the ssw.jar file.

GASP! *shock and awe* There are no physical weapons! This simply cannot be! How shall I ever recreate the Balrog without a hatchet?

This must be addessed. I DEMAND it!
(j/k of course, although, you DO intend on adding physical weapons at some point right?)

Ein, physical weapons are in the program. If you want to build the Balrog, it's production date must be set to 3022 or later and you must "Restrict by Year". The hatchet didn't appear until very late in the Succession Wars and only on a very few canon mechs.

EDIT: I was wrong. That change was made earlier, the hatchet is available from the Succession Wars on as default, not restricted equipment. You'll find physical weapons on the Equipment tab.

Mmm...I see. Hadn't thought to try that. Okay, well, I'll just have to set it to clan invasion in order to have access to the correct equipment. Thanks LiS!

I think that I found an error with the TSM. I think that I might have, but I don't know the exact rules for it so this may be a false alarm. If I am correct on the rule then TSM will allow the mech to run at double its max walking speed. But I have found that mechs 2/3/0 and below as well as 5/8/0 and above are reporting incorrectly. The 2/3/0 and below move too fast with TSM while 5/8/0 and above move too slowly at maximum speed with TSM.

TSM adds one point to walking MP when activated at heat 9 and above (of course, at heat 10 you lose that MP). You then recalculate the running MP. So a 2/3 mech would move at 3/5 when TSM is activated and a 5/8 mech would move at 6/9 when TSM is activated.

MASC is what doubles the walking MP.

Ok, I thought it doubled the walking speed. I tried looking around the internet for the rules for TSM to clear up any confusion that I had before I posted but I couldn't find anything. Sorry for the false alarm.

Edit: I know about having to reach that magic number of 9 points of heat and maintaining it to activate it. I just didn't know its exact modifier to speed.
