You can, but you need to use hotkeys (CTRL+C, CTRL+X, CTRL+V). When I get back to the fluff tabs for the RTF functionality, I'll add in context menus from right-click.

Excellent! I'm very familiar with hotkeys, so that will help me out a lot. Thanks!

So, I've been using the SSW designer for a while- it HAS been a while since I posted here. blame my job - Everything was cool until a day or so ago. Now, I can't use the app, because it locks up my desktop Specifically, I can start the app ok, use it in general, but if I try to allocate any crits (a drag-and-drop activity), everything but the mouse freezes. I can move the mouse and music continues to play, but the desktop is frozen (and no keyboard. at all.). Here's some details: OS: Debian sid AMD64 KDE 4.1.3 java: Sun-java6-jre-10-2
Some additional trivia: I thought that it might be the compositing of KDE4, but I tried to run SSW in fluxbox. The result was the same lockup. It also happens irrespective of version (I tried reinstalling an older version, and got the same result). I'm sad, because I really liked the SSW designer. If you want any more info please don't hesitate to ask

Lucho, First, I suggest you download the latest version here: www.solarisskunkwerks.com
Second, if it begins to error or freeze, exit the program and email me the SSW_Log.txt file in the root directory. That will contain any Java stack traces happening, possibly allowing me to pin down the problem.
Third, I am running Ubuntu on my laptop (Debian derivative) but I rarely use the compiled version, instead running it from the Netbeans IDE. Now, Netbeans came with the latest Java VM from Sun, so you may want to get that and run SSW using it. I do all my development at this time on Linux.
Fourth (the long one), I have noticed some problems with SSW and Gnome (which I thoroughly HATE), specifically that certain GUI items will not load correctly. When using Blackbox (with I thoroughly LOVE) I have none of these problems. It may have something to do with the libraries used by either K or Gnome related to Java. I have disabled the use of GTK+ in SSW and instead use Java's Look and Feel, so that should not be a factor. Once again, I highly reccomend using Sun's latest Java VM instead of the stuff installed on your computer.
Hopefully that helps. Let me know.

Sorry I wasn't clear I'm using the newest version (0.5.13); I removed it and tried earlier versions. No joy, so 0.5.13 returned. Another problem is that the program doesn't begin to freeze: it freezes without warning when I try to allocate crits- the SSWlog.txt was (and still is) empty. But I will try again. I am using the Sun version of java, although without Netbeans to my knowledge (it's the sun-java6-jre package). Like I said, I thought it might be due to compositing used by kde 4, but it also happens on fluxbox. I'll install netbeans and see what happens. Maybe I'll at least get a SSWlog.txt with something in it. I'll keep you informed

ok, no netbeans. I was thinking that maybe this is a xorg issue. I modified my xorg.conf recently, which may well be an issue. Here is the device section: quote: Section "Device"
# Option "TexturedXrender" "off" # Option "TexturedVideo" "off" # Option "TexturedVideoSync" "true" # Option "VideoOverlay" "on" # Option "MonitorLayout" "LDVS,AUTO" # Option "Textured2D" "on" # Option "BlockSignalsOnLock" "False" Identifier "aticonfig-Device[0]-0" Driver "fglrx" Option "BackingStore" "true" Option "UseInternalAGPGART" "no" Option "XAANoOffscreenPixmaps" "on" # Option "OpenGLOverlay" "off" Option "AGPMode" "4" # Option "ColorTiling" "on" Option "AccelMethod" "EXA" Option "MigrationHeuristic" "greedy" Option "AccelDFS" "true" Option "EnablePageFlip" "true" Option "EnableDepthMoves" "true" Option "UseFastTLS" "1" BusID "PCI:1:0:0" EndSection
maybe one of those options is not playing nicely with SSW (other java apps- like MegaMek- work normally though)?

Ok, here's an update to the freezing problem
I can confirm that it's not a xorg issue like I thought. I reverted to an old xorg.conf file that I know works, and it still gave a hard lock. Since then, I've updated the video driver (fglrx) and xserver-xorg (and updated to 0.5.15). Now, it still locks up but I still have the keyboard. So, I can at least do CTL+ALT+DEL (before the only option was a hard reboot). When I do that I can see that CPU usage is normal. Still stuck with a blank SSW_Log.txt

It seems that I'm the only one with this problem...
Ok, here's an update. I still can't make any progress, or get a SSWlog.txt with something in it. However, I can confirm my initial suspicion: it's a java issue, not your code Evidently, this is a problem that has been around for a while. Here's some links: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=645600 http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5319312&tstart=270
Here's a bug report. Somebody here at least got a stack trace, which is more than I got: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17126
For now, I'm using the OpenJDK, which (mentioned in the bug report) doesn't seem to have this problem. It even seems to run MegaMek just a bit faster I'm not being annoying on purpose, I hope something here helps

Not at all! Sorry I didn't have an immediate solution for you... Hopefully OpenJDK continues working for you. If you don't mind, I'd like to reference your issue and put the fix on SSW's main page.

SSW is going on update hiatus for the time being while I redo the 'Mech class to support Industrial and Primitive 'Mechs (for the programmers, I am adding in State capability). This will also open the door for easy programming of stuff like Hardened Armor, Modular Armor, and other stuff that modifies movement and such. I'm not sure how long it'll take... Could be two days, could be two weeks.
For now the latest version is 0.6.16, posted last night, which includes some extra printing goodies and, as far as I can tell, a relatively bug-free experience. You can download it from the usual places. I'll keep a code backup of 0.6.16 if any more bugs need to be stepped on while I do this rewrite. Thanks for all the suggestions and bug-hunting help!
