Overview
In 3068 with the Word of Blake commencing its Jihad against the rest of the Innersphere, the ever capitalistic Clan Diamond Sharks saw an opportunity to help the Successor States by providing them with some clan tech conversions of already popular Innersphere designs. Obtaining the schematics for the Centurion proved to be the easiest for the Diamond Sharks, during the Designing phase the Technician Caste wanted to keep the feel of the original Centurion alive. This would allow pilots of the original familiarity with the mech and allow them to use it effectively.

The use of advanced Heavy Lasers seemed to stir up discontent among other Clans, especially with the target consumers being mostly Innersphere nations, those in the Occupation zone attempted many raids to disrupt distribution. This however was futile, as the Diamond Shark defenders proved adaquate enough to protect the production facilities.

Capabilities
Due to the use of standard construction technologies, the Centurion IIC is easy to maintain in the field for Innersphere Technicians, however the weapons compliment is what proves to be truly troublesome. The advanced Heavy Lasers used on the Centurion IIC are currently beyond the capabilities of the Innersphere to reproduce, and quartermasters have to rely on Clan Diamond Shark for their supply, this coupled with the more efficient construction techniques used on the LB-10X autocannon and LRM rack means make it very difficult to replace lost weaponry. However the sheer power of the design has allowed it to remain popular with Innersphere commanders.

Pilots of the original Centurion may find it difficult to use the new Heavy Lasers as they have an inherent problem with shielding and tend to interfere with targeting systems. Pilots still prefer this weapon system over more contemporary medium laser designs, due to the sheer damage output when they can manage to get a hit on their target. The rest of the firepower is identical to older model Centurions, which makes use of a LB-10X Autocannon, providing either cluster or slugs and capable of dishing out respectable damage, and finally the 10 tube LRM system, which has been slaved to an Artemis IV FCS provides the machine with accurate long range firepower.

The Centurion IIC offers the same amount of protection as the original CN9-A Centurion, which is deemed adaquate enough, as the Diamond Sharks had already thrown in enough of advanced technology on the designs weapon systems it was found unecessary to include Ferro Fibrous armor, however during the maintanance cycles some technicians have been known to incorporate the Innersphere equivalent, but the length of time to completely refit the armor layout leaves it out of the fighting for quite a while.

Another feature to note, is the Diamond Sharks also alloted two tons of the Centurion's mass to be used to mount jump jets, allowing the Centurion to propel itself 120 meters, giving it more tactical flexability, and making up for the overall lack of speed.

Battle History
In November of 3074 the Coalition led by Devlin Stone hit Hesperus II in an attempt to re-capture the production facilities of Defiance Industries, among these forces were a handful of Centurion IICs. When the Word of Blake encountered the Centurion IIC it was mistakened as a standard CN9-D Centurion, and based on this information would close in to fight it at short range, not realising that the Centurion benefited from the Clans superior LRM technology, and the high intensity output of the Heavy Lasers. This proved to be a tactical advantage for Stone's force and one that helped level the playing field when fighting the Word in later battles.

Known Variants
One other variant that the Diamond Sharks have supplied to IS forces exists, and this one strips out the Autocannon, and 2 Heatsinks for the same ENRG "Galaxy" series Gauss Rifle found on the Mad Cat Mk II this weapon is supplied with two tons of ammo, and replaces the Heavy Medium Lasers with more contemporary Series 2b Extended Range models. This refit offeres superior range to the original, however its overall firepower is somewhat reduced.

Nice piece of work - excellent revenue generator without giving dirty Spheroids too much of an edge...

I second LiS on the MLs, but the variant you mention addresses that for me!

Good read but, as always, I want more. ;) I personally would prefer ERMLs, but the HMLs make perfect sense here and your Battle History explains why. I'd also almost go so far as to say this is over-sinked, but the Sharks _are_ selling to less-than-smart Spheroid pilots, so the alpha capability is welcome.

Simple yet efficient use of Clan tech on a classical design.

I like, a lot! Well done.
