OVERVIEW:
In 3046 Abtakha suffered a brutal assault by the nearby pirate world
of Naksul. A collection of various pirates and failed mercenaries
gathered together and assaulted the city of Bremen, and despite the
best efforts of Guard and militia forces, the city fell. The damage was
horrific, tens of thousands were dead, hundreds if not thousands
taken as slaves, the city's infrastructure laid to waste and the whole
city set aflame. The Olympus Battleworks facilities and Guard
installations were levelled, and Olympus' machinery was stolen or
destroyed, while stockpiles of newly manufactured goods and supplies from
the Guard installations were looted.

This action made the Abtakhan Guard realize the need for a new
urban warfare vehicle to engage and defeat heavy weight battlemech
forces in the close confines of a city environment. More than that, the
design had to be as lightweight and cheap as possible.

Olympus' engineers were only all to happy to comply with the request,
as many of their coworkers, friends, and family members had been
killed in the assault. Designers knew instantly what they wanted for
the main gun - a monstrous 20 series autocannon. Engineers originally
opted for the Luxor DDX-5 heavy autocannon, and began importing
them as soon as they began designing the vehicle.

As combat was to take place in predominately urban terrain,
engineers opted for a tracked vehicle, as it would be able to turn
around quickly in urban environments, and engineers did not want to
waste weight and money on a turret for the gun, and used the ancient
Terran S-type tank from Sweden as inspiration.

To cut back on costs as much as possible, engineers took a
scorpion tank chassis, and reinforced it with an additional ton of
internal structure, and mounted a 105 ICE engine to provide a top
speed of just over 50 kilometers an hour. While slow, the close
confines of a city environment negates the advantage of fast moving
vehicles. Mounted forward facing onto the vehicle is the Luxor
autocannon, fed by three tons of ammunition. To protect the vehicle,
five and a half tons of Aegis armour is wrapped around the vehicle,
concentrated at the front and thinning at the sides to its thinnest point
at the rear of the vehicle.

When the first prototypes began field testing, complaints began to
come in regarding the size of the Luxor gun. While powerful, the sheer
size of the barrel often prevented the vehicle from turning in close
confines and side streets, and the Olympian Automatic division was
called in to help solve the problem. The initial solution for the
prototypes was really quite simple, after being notified of the problem,
and examining the lance of prototypes a young astech from the
Olympian Automatic division stepped forth to offer a solution - he took
a plasma torch and chopped off half the autocannon's barrel. While
the vehicle encountered issues regarding accuracy and a reduction in
muzzle velocity, the solution worked well enough for the prototypes,
and inspired by this, Olypian Automatic began working on a new domestic 20-series
autocannon. They came up with a snub nosed 135mm gun, with a
firing rate of 6 rounds per standard burst. The old prototypes were
retrofitted with the new gun, and the new build vehicles have been
manufactured with it. To supply the gun, 90 rounds, or three tons, of
ammo was mounted, giving the vehicle the abilitity to lay down 15
bursts of fire.

With the vehicle designed and entering service, engineers needed to
name it. Initially designated the 135mm gun carrier (Tracked),
engineers named it the Olympic Fury, and it has since become the
mainstay city defender of Abtakha.

CAPABILITITES:
The Olympic Fury is limited in its roles, and is almost useless in an
open field engagement where an enemy can outflank it or pepper it
with longer ranged weapons. However, during urban operations, it has
proven to be an able defender, and teams of these vehicles can often
times catch mechs, or whole lances, in crossing fields of fire and bring
them down with only a couple of bursts.

The vehicle is often compared to the Hetzer wheeled assault gun,
andy many commanders have complained that the hetzer - which is
faster, more heavily armoured, has more ammunition, and is cheaper, would be a better vehicle for Guard forces.
However, supporters of the Fury have pointed out that while the
Hetzer is nominally superior, the Fury is built upon a commonly
manufactured pre-existing chassis, and its tracks afford it better
mobility, and give it the ability to turn on the spot in close confines
whereas a Hetzer is unable to move over anything but open, flat
ground, and its wheel base restricts its turning abilities in closely
confined areas.

DEPLOYMENT:
The Olympic Fury presently serves in all major city garrisons and
following the start of the clan invasion, has been picked up by some
militia forces in the Lyran half of the Federated Commonwealth. Also,
Olympus Battleworks bequeathed sixteen of these vehicles to the
mercenary regiment that was raised on Abtakha with the council and
Guard's blessing to serve in the front lines of the clan invasion.

VARIANTS:
There are no known variants of the Olympic Fury as of 3052.

NOTABLE CREW/VEHICLE:
Master Corporal Paul Francis,

Master Corporal Paul Francis, vehicle commander of the Abtakhan
mercenary tank two-three Charlie, was fighting in the Federated
Commonwealth against invading clan forces when the Abtakhan
mercenaries set up an ambush in the capital city, leading to the
Starport as clan forces approached. The goal was to hold the Clan
Wolf forces long enough to buy time for the planetary militia and AFFC
troops, along with the rest of the Abtakhan mercenaries, to get off
planet before they were overrun. While aerospace fighters fended off
the Wolf fighters, a full company of gun carriers set themselves up
along the major approach to the starport, in an abandoned and
blasted apart industrial sector.

The Gun Carriers kept themselves hidden in the blasted out remnants
of factories and warhouses as a binary of clan medium and heavy
omnimechs approached. As the binary advanced, they were
screened by a Dasher light mech, which was acting as a forward
scout. The Wolf omnimechs weren't approaching the company's
position, and so Master Corporal Francis made the desperate move of
abandoning his position and pushing his vehicle forward and into the
open. Detecting the movement, the Dasher came in to investigate.

Upon rounding the corner the Dasher was greeted with a burst of
135mm fire, which promptly tore apart the side of a building the Dasher
was next to. The Dasher pilot, seeking a kill against the freeborn surat,
charged forward, using its speed to move in behind the vehicle and
safely out of the way of its forward facing gun. However, the Dasher's
pilot, accustomed to the clan custom of one on one honourable
combat, neglected to considered the possibility of hidden forces laying
in ambush. As soon as it moved past Master Corporal Francis' tank,
and began turning around to open fire, 11 other 135mm guns opened
up simultaneously, literally obliterating the light mech with no
discernible piece left other than the twisted, skeletal remnants of its
torso.

The Wolf binary, having lost touch with its forward scout, moved in to
investigate. With the clan mechs now off the backs of the rest of the
forces, the Gun Carriers moved back into their positions with Master
Corporal Francis' tank returning to its original position. As the binary
moved in, and came to recognize the scattered metal as the tattered
remnants of their scout, the carriers opened fire. A Mad Cat fell
instantly, and the left torso of a Vulture was blown out as the gun
carriers fired from the protection of half destroyed buildings. The clan
mechs attempted to retreat, but they had moved to close in and the
Carriers sprang out, and attempted to surround the clan mechs. After a
horrific ninety second firefight, the Gun Carriers were all destroyed,
with no survivors. However, the clan binary suffered immensely, three
of their pilots were dead, four other mechs destroyed. The three
remaining mechs were all badly damaged, and they limped away,
allowing the rest of the defenders to escape.

Communications System:   Achernar
Targeting & Tracking System: Olympic Artemis

OVERVIEW:
With the growing amount of infantry forces under Guard command,
and the need to get them rapidly around the battlefield, Olympus
Battleworks undertook the task of developing a cheap, reliable, and
capable infantry fighting vehicle. Olympus engineers settled on a
lightweight 35 ton frame and a wheeled base, and mounted a 155
combustion engine that provides a top speed of just over 80 km/h.
Since they were designing an IFV, and not an APC, engineers
mounted a turret assembly and fitted it with a 50mm autocannon. The
initial set of autocannons were imported, but they soon began
producing them under the Olympian Automatic division based out of
Targos. As a secondary weapon, engineers 'liberated' a set of 12.7mm
machine guns from the Olympus Small Arms division and mounted
them onto the turret for an anti-infantry defence. The vehicle had to be
able to ferry a platoon into battle, and so a 3 ton infantry bay was
mounted with armoured doors at the rear, and hatches on top that
open up and allow for air sentries or simply allow the infantry to pop out
of the hatches and lend their firepower to the vehicle's. The biggest
failling with the design comes from its armour, which is considered
thing at only 4.5 tons. In the end, the vehicle costs approximately
388,239 C-Bills.

CAPABILITITES:
The Saber IFV is a capable vehicle able to carry infantry platoons into
battle and provide fire support with their autocannons and machine
guns. While possessing limited armour, the vehicle is not necessarily
designed for prolonged engagements, but simply to lend fire support
and get the infantry into the battle.

DEPLOYMENT:
The Saber IFV is the standard Infantry Fighting Vehicle of The
Abtakhan Guard, and sees extensive use with the mechanized
infantry formations and militia. Also, a fair number of these have been
procured by House militias, seeking to boost the combat capabilities of
their infantry for a cheap price. The combat variant has also been
seen in service with at least three mercenary outfits.

VARIANTS:
There are two common variants of the Saber, the first is one that has
been done by field commanders who have replaced the 50mm
cannon with a smaller AC-2 and used the extra weight to boost the
armour, and the other is an official production version, designated the
Saber Combat Vehicle ,which drops the infantry bay and mounts a two
tube SRM launcher in the front with a ton of ammo and an extra ton of
armour.

OVERVIEW:
Following the development of the LSVW commanders knew there
was a need for a larger, heavier cargo vehicle and engineers were
already one step ahead, with the MLVW. The Medium Logistics
Vehicle Wheeled was originally an unarmoured and unarmed vehicle,
but exchanges of fire during supply runs lead to the development of
the modern incarnation, a light weight and simple supply vehicle with a
limited self defence capability. The vehicle is fitted with an 80 rating
combustion engine and two and a half tons of armour, and fields a
small turret bearing a 12.7mm machine gun for fending off infantry. The
vehicle is not designed for combat, but only limited self defence
primarily against infantry. For carrying purposes, it has an eight ton
cargo bay as well as a trailer hitch for trailers.

CAPABILITITES:
The MLVW is a simple cargo carrying vehicle, designed with a limited
self defence capability making it able to effectively engage enemy
infantry.

DEPLOYMENT:
There are two variants in service with the Guard, this, the armoured
and armed version, and the unarmed version. The unarmed version is
more common and handles many simple supply runs, while this variant
is primarily used to ferry supplies among troops in field or outlying
outposts.

VARIANTS:
The more common version of this vehicle posses no weapons or
armour, and has a 12.5 ton cargo capacity.

Targeting & Tracking System: (Unknown)

OVERVIEW:
"Commanders study tactics, generals study logistics", this phrase
showed more than true in the early days of The Abtakhan Guard, with
pirate attacks taking place across the cenral district, in the areas
around the capital, the various firebases and outposts being
established by the Guard found themselves more often than not
desperate for supplies. Faced with a near impossible logistics problem,
especially once the first companies of new Scorpion tanks were
entering service, Olympus Battleworks had to come up with a solution,
and fast. While many vehicles were entering service, the bulk of the
force remained infantry, and small infantry units scattered about didn'
require massive transport vehicles, but rather smaller supply trucks that
could move sections about and ferry supplies to troops either on
exercise or on operations. To quickly fill the hole in the Guard's order
of battle the company first began converting civilian 5 ton trucks by
bolting armour plates onto them until the LSVW could start rolling off
the assembly line. Soon enough, the vehicle was in service.

The LSVW is a simple vehicle design, with the engineers going for
the smallest engine possible to increase carrying capacity. The
engineers decided to commission a new 10 rating engine that could
propel the vehicle to speeds in excess of 140 km/h, though this is not
recommended. Since the vehicle was designed to ferry supplies, not
fight battles, only a half ton of armour was chosen, providing little more
than limited protection against small arms and machine guns. The
vehicle carries no armament, though some variants have had the
cargo bay packed with a one shot SRM launcher, flamer, or machine
guns.

CAPABILITITES:
The LSVW has a 2.5 ton cargo bay, and is able to move quite
quickly but is otherwise useless on a battlefield.

DEPLOYMENT:
The LSVW is the standard lightweight supply vehicle of The
Abtakhan Guard and the planetary militia. In addition to this, its cheap
cost and simplicity of design has made it attractive to several Periphery
clients and several Davion militias.

Vehicle: Hammer HMR-1A

Tech Base: Inner Sphere - Level 1

Chassis Design: Tracked

Vehicle Mass: 50 tons

Engine: 200 Olympus ICE I.C.E

Vehicle Movement:

  Cruise Speed: 43.2 km/h

  Flank Speed: 64.8 km/h

Armour Type: Olympus AEGIS Standard

Armament:
1x Olympian Automatic Autocannon/10
1x Olympus Apollo LRM 5
Manufacturer:   Olympus Battleworks
   Location:   Abtakha
Communications System:   Achernar
Targeting & Tracking System: Olympic Artemis

OVERVIEW:
In 3036, the limitations of Olympus' Scorpion tank were becoming
readily apparent, while it possessed decent short range firepower and
speed it still lacked adequate punch for engaging heavy weight
battlemech opponents, and at that time the Guard possessed few
artillery and long range missile vehicles. In order to beef up formations
of scorpions Olympus engineers went to work to design a heavier
vehicle able to better wither the fire of a heavier opponent and act as
a an anchor for scorpion formations.

To meet this requirement, the engineers began development of the
Hammer Main Battle Tank, a fifty ton medium tank that would serve
lead for scorpion formations. Problems arose early on as Olympus was
still importing LRM launchers and had yet to begin manufacturing any
ballistic weapons larger than the AC-5. These lead to the development
of the Olympus Apollo missile line, brining about the domestic
manufacture of SRM and LRM racks. To go along with this, Olympus
brought its ballistic manufacturing together to its factories outside the
city of Targos, one of the major cities of Abtakha and designated that
division Olympus Automatic, and began manufacturing a 76 millimeter
weapon with similar capabilities to the commonly found 80mm in Inner
Sphere service.

After having developed the requisite weapon systems engineers
wanted for the vehicle they began to work on the vehicle itself, and
started off wanting a minimum speed of just over sixty kilometers an
hour, preferably able to achieve speeds of over 80. however, inherent
limitations with tracked vehicles lead to engineers settling for 200
rating combustion engine for a whopping 17 tons. Engineers then
mounted the turret onto the vehicle and added in the autocannon.
To keep the weapon firing, two tons of ammunition were stowed away
and they then settled on a secondary weapon. For secondary
purposes, the engineers wanted to give their combat formations some
long range power, and decided to mount a 5 tube LRM rack on the
front of the vehicle. To protect the vehicle, engineers wanted at
least eight tons of armour, but weight limitations forced them to
accepting only 7 tons, spread mostly evenly across the vehicle,
with a slightly greater concentration on the turret and front. After two
year and a half years of development, the vehicle finally rolled off the
assembly line in mid 3038.

CAPABILITITES:
The Hammer possesses adequate firepower for medium range
engagements and is intended for use in conjunction with the Scorpion,
which can move into short range and unleash havoc with their SRM
packs while Hammers draw enemy fire and soften up targets with
autocannon and long range missile fire. Unfortunately, unlike many
Olympus vehicles, the Hammer does not possess a dedicated
anti-infantry weapon.

DEPLOYMENT:
After production and development delays the vehicle finally entered
service in early 3039, where it was initially met with enthusiasm by
armour commanders and crews, but they soon grew to dislike the
vehicle, finding it to be mediocre at best. After 93 vehicles were
manufactured, the vehicle was cancelled and production stopped in
favour of the Hammer 2 that was being developed.

VARIANTS:
Some commanders have ordered there technicians to strip off the
LRM rack and replace it with an SRM rack and machine gun.

NOTABLE CREW/VEHICLE:
During a pirate raid in 3040, 2nd lieutenant Saunders and his tank,
nicknamed the 'Mediocrity' lead a formation of scorpions into battle
against an attacking pirate mech lance, hoping to delay them and buy
time for militia infantry to dig in and estalbish defensive positions.
When they moved into engagement range, they soon discovered the
priates to be Davion deserters, with relatively modern and well
maintained mechs, the lead one being a monstrous Orion. Knowing
defeat, and death would come swiftly, the 2nd lieutenant ordered his
scorpions to take cover in thick forest and some abandoned buildings
and to power down, waiting for the 'Mediocrity' to lead the enemy
lance through their positions where they could power up and hopefully
unleash a couple salvos at the enemy legs before being destroyed.
However, when the 'Mediocrity' entered into autocannon range of the
Orion as it fled towards the ambush site, incoming fire killed the gunner
and 2nd Lt. Saunders took charge of the guns, turning the turret
towards the enemy orion and unleashing a blast of AC fire. That blast
of AC fire managed to strike right through the cockpit of the enemy
Orion, instantly killing the pilot and taking out the pirate leader. The
Orion's lancemates, seeing the single fleeing periphery tank so easily
kill their commander, turned and fled.
