Overview, Capabilities, Deployment:

The relative success of the "Iron Crow" refit project has emboldened the design
team to continue their work in three different directions.  The first such path
is the most straitforward. 

This second-generation variant incorporates double heatsink technology in order
to add a third Magna Hellstar to the left torso, bringing ranged firepower up
to modern assault 'mech standards.  Its mobility is not upgraded, but the
retention of the practical Strand 255 engine eases the burden of repair and
upkeep.  The resulting balance should hopefully fill the space between the
conservative "retrotech" approach of the last model and the front line units of
the great houses.  The heatsinks are the only new technology, making the
upgrade as easy as possible for all involved. 

This upgrade also benefits from feedback on the last model.  The abundance of
lasers gave the hand actuators and flamers little opportunity to prove useful,
and rear-facing weapons were one of the most requested features.  The
mechanically complex custom arms were also poorly recieved by tech teams tasked
with maintaining them.  It didn't seem to help that these intricate assemblies
were primarily used as blunt weapons with all the brutality an 85 ton
battlemech could muster. 

To address these, all nonessential actuators were dropped from the arms and
each flamer is replaced with yet another Omicron 950.  Four of the lasers are
moved into the space freed up in the simplified arms.  The 'mech can now fire
two PPCs and four lasers in any direction and the luxurious laser array that
was so well-recieved is now even more terrifying.  The arm-mounting of 2/5 of
its close-range weapons should hopefully discourage melee combat, and reduce at
least one source of anxiety should the pilot ever wind up facing the decision
of whether to break Zellbrigen. 

The 50% increase in ranged firepower is much appreciated when what would have
been impressive long-range power just a few years ago is fast becoming
"adequate" mid-range power as new and recovered technologies become
increasingly common.  This upgrade is the most prolific of these three, though
how much of this is due to its being the first available is hard to determine.


Battle History, Variants, Notables:

Tomas Two Bears of the Bison Thunder mercenary company pilots a hybrid of the
CRK-5003-IC and -W after having defeated a heavily customised King Crab almost
single-handedly while on garrison duty.  Tomas and the King Crab pilot seemed
to wordlessly agree to duel each other, and their comrades instinctively
understood their intent.  The battle was very nearly a draw for Tomas with his
battlemech, the Breetai Tomahawk, barely able to return home under its own
power after having several bones broken by the King-size Crab's king-size
beams.  He explained that his victory was more luck than skill, as he would
have been defeated had his desperate punch not triggered a cookoff in his
opponent's missile bin, but his contribution still earned him a bonus which
went toward the rebuild and refit of his 'mech. 

His bonus also included a pair of Heavy PPCs he chose from the remains of his
dueling opponent's battlemech.  These he carries with pride as cherished
trophies, replacing the lighter weapons in the battle-fisted arms he used to
earn them.  This upgrade replaces the third PPC in a -W refit, allowing the
left torso flamer to be retained.  The heatsink upgrade is applied as normal,
but the arm-mounted lasers are instead mounted in the legs.  Tomas explained
that he feels he is too tempted in the heat of battle to make risky kicking
attacks when opponents close, and the standard -W refit would only exacerbate
this.

A nice change to the Crockett, turning it into a really dangerous 'Mech.

obvious fluff formatting errors fixed

OOC note: Tomas Two Bears and Bison Thunder have been forming in my mind for months, and Two Bears kinda grew out of the 'mech this is based on. The name of his 'mech just occurred to me today and is a new callout to Breetai. Breetai's Warhammer Mk. II closely resembles the 'mech this was based on, Tomas' battlemech has dual PPCs of a sort, and the Warhammer was based on a Macross design called the Tomahawk. It all fit together uncannily well.
