Overview:

The Verreaux, a type of Eagle found on ancient Terra is the premier heavy fighter produced by Devonshire Heavy Aerospace. Massing a respectable 85tons, the Verreaux is built for survivability and heavy combat.

Capabilities:

To achieve all of its desired goals, the Devonshire engineers installed the Verreaux with a fast 340XL-rated engine and 6 tons of diatomic hydrogen fuel. This gives the VER-2D awesome staying in the field, often outlasting similar weighing aerospace fighters. For protection, the Verreaux mounts 18.5 tons of advanced Ferro-aluminum composite armor. The armor provides two boons, first the additional protection affords the VER-2D increased longevity and secondly, the needed protection necessary for entering or exiting a planet’s atmosphere. Devonshire did not skimp on the Verreaux’s armament either. In each wing are matched pairs of an ER Large Laser and ER Medium Laser, providing formidable strafing power and range. The nose of the craft mounts even more devastating weaponry. These taking the forms of matched Medium Pulse Lasers mounted above a monstrous LB-20X Autocannon; the ultimate anti-fighter weapon. Four tons of ammunition feed the hungry cannon and keep the Verreaux in for a long fight. To cope with the tremendous heat generated by these weapons, nineteen double strength heat sinks are mounted in the fighter’s hull. Also for additional protection, the LB-X ammunition is protected by a CASE system and an ER Small Laser was mounted in the rear of the aircraft to deter enemy aerospace pilots from trailing.

Battle History:

During the recent Blakist forrays into the Chaos March, the VER-2D faired surprising well against the older Star League-vintage aircraft the WoB pilots were flying. Whether this was due to the superiority of the fighter or their pilots was Devonshire's primary desire to obtain their combat ROMs for evaluation.

Variants:

There are no variants of the fighter at this time. Despite rumors of a different variant being operated by Devonshire test pilots over Marlette.

Deployment

The VER-2D as been deployed in limited numbers with the rebuilding Brigade of Davion Guards. Specifically, the Davion Assault Guards RCT. During the first production run of the air craft a small number were sold to ComStar in an effort to bolster their aerospace forces in the Chaos March. Reports of their use against Blakist forces have been utilized by Devonshire's engineers to tweak future production runs of the aerofighter.

Artemis IV FCS

Overview:

The VEN-1D Venture follows in the grand tradition of both the CEP-1D Cepher and   EXT-2D Exeter Aerospace Fighter in the annals of Devonshire Aerospace's Fighter development as being the third Aerospace fighter subcontracted and constructed by the private arms manufacturer for the Federated Suns. The VEN-1D is a specialty spacecraft constructed and utilized only for AFFS use.

The birth of the VEN-1D is intricately bound to the Marlette yards themselves. In 3059, as construction began grinding to a halt on the Marlette shipyards due to cost overruns and the withdrawal of Federated Suns financial support, the Devonshire Corp. faced the very real possibility of foreclosure and bankruptcy unless an alternative avenue of capital could be located and utilized to convert the unfinished shipyards into a facility marginally capable of turning a profit.

Enter Comstar.

As a consummate business person, Comstar as an entity can be considered the finest in the Inner Sphere. With their control of the interstellar HPG network, even the recent loss of Terra, did little to hamper the constant flow of knowledge of the comings and goings of every major industrial concern in the Inner Sphere, especially their financial dispositions.
The financial depression of the Devonshire Corporation was an unexpected boon to the now-homeless ComGuard war machine, which only recently recognized the need for a new Aerospace fighter design to augment their existing fleet of aging Star League-era fighter craft. Devoid of their Terran production facilities the ComGuard was faced with the difficult proposition of garnering new war materials through either third party groups or intermediates, all of which cost them substantial amounts of C-Bills for sometimes dubious equipment.

Recognizing the situation, the monetary problems of Devonshire Inc. created an economic windfall that could benefit both parties, and so Comstar, through a Rossi holding company based in the Lyran Commonwealth, contacted the Board of Directors of Devonshire Inc. with the express purpose of investing monies directly into the corporation's construction effort with the desired effort of garnering a direct source for new aerospace material.

Although initially worried by this unexpected offer of assistance, especially in the cold economic climate of pre-Operation Bulldog and post-Battle of Coventry Inner Sphere, the Board of Directors of Devonshire eventually acquiesced and accepted the offered monies. With a financial "nest egg" secured for the foreseeable future, the shipbuilding company quickly directed energies to produce an Aerospace design for their newest clients. Design of the new Aerospace Fighter, dubbed the Exeter, ran apace with the final construction necessary to bring the Marlette orbital yards to Aerospace fighter construction capability, although as a whole the yards would be incapable of anything larger than Aerospace fighters for another six years, it was enough to bring a marginal profit return and prove the vitality the of the Devonshire corporation.

With the minor commercial success of the Exeter Aerofighter and again through intermediaries, ComStar attempted to secure yet another Aerospace fighter design. However, for this new fighter class ComStar was slightly more specific in their needs, desiring a light aerospace fighter to suppliment or replace the ComGuard's numerous Trident and Spad Light Aerospace Fighter-classes. To this end, design of the CEP-1D Cepher took place in mid-3060 and in record development time the first Cepher prototypes were making their way into ComGuard test pilot hands by December, merely seven months from inception.

With the successful completion and integration of the Cepher Fighter into the ranks of the ComGuard, the Devonshire Board of Directors, turned their attention to more pressing local concerns: the Federated Suns. Although still feeling some of the financial strain of the Federated Suns pullout in 3059, Devonshire knew that their long term financial survival would ultimately depend on their ability to acquire a number of large and lengthy military contracts with the AFFS, specifically, by supplying the Davion military with new equipment. Unfortunately, given the strict agreement between Devonshire Inc. and ComStar, the company was unable to offer either the Exeter or Cepher class Fighter. ComStar would retain exclusive production rights to either machine until 3070. Faced with this legal predicament, the Devonshire Board of Directors followed their only logical course of action: design a new Fighter for sale to the Federated Suns. The result: VEN-1D Venture.

Capabilities:

Given the rushed feelings of Devonshire's Board of Directors, time saving elements were applied to the design of the Venture Aerospace Fighter. Key among these elements was the utilization of properties from both the Cepher and the Exeter Class vessels. In fact, the speedy development and deployment in the field is specifically due to this combination. Some observers have even stated that the Venture is simply a "slapstick combo," given the similarities between it and its parent craft. Though the Venture does sport many likenesses to these earlier fighters there are many features completely unique to its design.

Using the proven airframe of the CEP-1D Cepher,  albeit larger, the VEN-1D is an extremely capable machine, with superior atmospheric handling and manueverability. To maximize the new fighters awesome potential and to make the machine irresistable to House Davion , the Devonshire engineering staff again turned to the CoreTek fusion engine to supply the new aerofighter. For the VEN-1D model, a 275-rated XL Fusion Engine was installed. Though larger than the engine found on the smaller Cepher, however, it is the same unit utilized by the ComGuard's Exeter. That both machines receive similar performance from the CoreTek 275 is a testament to the superiority of CoreTek's work, and a subtle nod that Devonshire's Board of Directors may also be willing to sell the new fighter to other interested parties (read: ComStar)
A stunning piece of aerospace technology, the CoreTek fusion engine gives the fifty-five ton craft great agility and speed. In fact, during test trials, the Venture was capable of a full 5.50s of acceleration, easily able to outrun most heavy fighters, as well as keep pace with many lighter designs. Also with six tons of diatomic hydrogen fuel, the Venture can remain aloft for an extended period of time. The CoreTek 275 XL Fusion engine is also lighter than more commonly utilized standard fusion engines, allowing weight savings to be applied to the VEN-1D's weapon suite and armor package. Additionally, Devonshire engineers installed the same communications and targeting & tracking systems found on the earlier Exeter and Cepher to help ease repair and maintenance costs to the company while supplying the Davion military.

For an offensive suite, the engineers of Devonshire opted for a number of weapon systems that would provide the Venture with the best of what the Cepher and the Exeter had to offer, with a variety of tactical uses for a variety of differing combat environments. From the Cepher, the VEN-1D would gain two Extended Range Exostar Large Laser, one mounted in either wing. Supporting the awesome range and power of the Exostars are the same Diverse Optics Type 20P Medium Pulse Lasers installed in the Exeter. This heavy energy armament gives the Venture the ability to both strafe and engage enemy units at altitude. These smaller lasers are used in conjunction with the Exostar as support, or as a "cool down" weapon in between ER Large Laser salvos. The new Venture also sports the same Harpoon 6 SRM pack as the Exeter. This launcher, supplied with an Artemis IV FCS for extra accuracy can be fitted with a variety of specialty ammunitions, including the feared Inferno. Finally, almost as an after thought the designers from Devonshire supplied the rear of the VEN-1D with the same small laser found on the Cepher, in an effort to help discourage enemy pursuit.

For protection, the VEN-1D Venture relies on a ten ton shell of exceptional Durallex Heavy with CASE aerospace armor. This layer of protection is usually enough to keep the delicate innards of the Venture safe from enemy weapons fire, but the pilot should still take heed when tackling larger prey, such as Dropships and heavy fighters, which boast thick armored hides and weapons packages that can easily pick the Venture apart. Against these larger opponents, the VEN-1D, like its smaller brethern should approach enmasse, engaging from extreme range with its ER Large Laser before making blistering strafing passes to avoid counter enemy fire.

Battle History:

The VEN-1D has seen combat on only one occasion, the forced withdraw of the Fifth FedCom from the Marlette System. During the renegade unit's retreat from the embattled system, the battered regiment utilized a number of stolen Ventures to cover their Dropships while they fled to waiting Jumpships at the system's Nadir Jump point. The new fighters, covered only with their factory paint primer fought a running battle with pursuing allied fighters. The ensuing firefight to the jump point was especially fierce, with neither side giving quarter to the other. Throughout the attack, the loyalist Ventures fared better than average, with their fast speed, decent armor and strong weapons package capable of holding off hordes of lighter Corsairs and Sparrowhawks. Although most of the VEN-1Ds were lost during the engagement, their selfless defense of the FedCom's transports resulted in only two of their Dropships being lost to the enemy.

With the cessation of hostilities in the Federated Suns, the long arm of House Davion has turned its eyes upon the recent incursions of the Taurian Concordat into Suns' Periphery. Already the first shipment of Venture fighters produced since the end of the Civil War are making their way to Davion forces fighting along the border were it is hoped their presense will help dislodge the dug in Taurian forces and counter their new Gallardo Medium Aerospace Fighter which is the Venture's closest equivalent in the Concordat's military.

Variants:

There are no known variants of the VEN-1D Venture. However, Devonshire Inc. of Marlette has been abundantly clear that in the future, as soon as contractual and material obligations are fulfilled, the company will produce another variant for sale either to House Davion or other interested parties. Whether or not this Aerospace fighter variant will feature a reengineered weapons suite, other technological improvements, or even a complete redesign remains to be seen, but given the financial problems and physical damage the company sustained during the Civil War a new variant may be years away.

Deployment

With the successful completion of the construction necessary to bring a small percentage of the Marlette yards online, the Devonshire Corporation has been steadily churning out both Exeter and Cepher Aerospace fighters at a modest rate since 3061.

However, even the Devonshire Board of Directors were completely unprepared for the explosive civil war brewing on the Federated Suns horizon. With the violent outbreak of the FedCom Civil War, the world of Marlette and Devonshire Inc., became witnesses to the full horrors of war when the world was stricken by nuclear weapons launched by a disgraced Federated Commonwealth RCT. Faced with a devastated planetary economy and the death of hundreds of employees on-planet, Devonshire Inc. was quickly headed toward ruin. The mammoth reconstruction of Marlette alone was almost enough to bankrupt the company's coffers. To make matters worse for Devonshire, the retreating FedCom unit also made off with two full production runs of the VEN-1D and CEP-1D fighters, some of which they used to cover their dramatic in-system escape.

For the remainder of the Civil War, Devonshire would teeter on the brink of dissolution. Only its strong partnerships with some of the military industries left relatively unscathed by the war, including, KBT, Wunderland and Johnson Industries, allowed the company to remain afloat. However, the ending of the Civil War with the capture of New Avalon and Katrina Steiner by forces allied to Victor Steiner-Davion, Devonshire received an unexpected boon in the form of a massive order for Venture fighters from the rebuilding AFFS. Apparently, Battle ROMS of the FedCom's retreat from the Marlette system provided tangible proof of the Venture's combat capabilities. Capabilities the Federated Suns High Command could ill afford to ignore following the mauling taken by the AFFS's Aerospace forces during the war. Although the Devonshire yards, along with Marlette are still rebuilding, the company has managed to manufacture roughly twenty Venture's for the Suns. Whether or not the company has plans to sell the VEN-1D to anyone else, or if they are even capable of expanding their production remains unclear at this time, but given that their exclusive contract with ComStar ends in 3070 it is safe to assume that Devonshire will sell to just about any party interested in their fighter designs.

This is great writing. It reads like a canon sourcebook entry! (even better than...) Now I know what I've been missing out on. Now I'm goign to have to go abck and get caught on your older stuff.

Wow that's some fluff, and it's more substantiative, more like
"food" or some adjective I can't think of at the moment. The Venture and the Gallardo seem to be fairly well matched, although I think that extra fuel I put in mind would just serve to make the fire bigger if you end up closing in with this thing. This is like the student judging the teacher, but nonetheless, VERY nice job Knightmare.

My thanks to D for prompting this return to ASFs.

It's always a delight to see a KM-authentic design, even more so since this would likely herald a return en masse (hopefully).
The fluff was incredible and a deadly fighter as well. Nicely done.

No fluff? A fair looking design. A bit slower than the canon designs, but it appears to make up for it with armor protection. My only dislike is that it generates 1 more point of heat than it can fire. Though minimal, heat is one issue I will not budge from, even when trying to go for the canon feel. If your weapon brackets were staggered or you had 1 pointed aft it wouldnt be a big deal, but you got all 5 firing forward. Good work though.

Armament:1 Johnston Minigun Machine Gun2 Federated 2-Shot SRM 2Manufacturer:    Devonshire Heavy Aerospace Inc.   Location:    MarletteCommunications System:    Dalban CommlineTargeting & Tracking System: Dalban AQ

Overview:

The Militia Turbine MTHA-1A is Devonshire's first forray into the conventional aerospace market. Created to capitalize on the military equipment vacuum created after the cessation of hostilities after the FedCom Civil War, the Militia, aptly named after its inteded user, is a versatile craft.

Capabilities:

Weighing in at only 25 tons, the Militia is no heavier than a Locust Light 'Mech, but with the speed and manueverability that would put the nimble 'Mech to shame.
First and foremost among the Militia's capabilities is its staying power. Able to use four tons of conventional fuel, the Militia can stay aloft for an extended period of time before necessary refueling. Additionally, having a VSTOL system allows the MTHA-1A the flexibility to land in a variety of different terrains, a must for units wielding the Militia in its primary capacity as a harrassar platform.
For protection, the fighter utilizes 2 tons of standard armor, allowing the Militia to take a medium laser and keep flying. Finally, for an offensive suite, the MTHA-1A was outfitted with twin-linked SRM2s, one in each wing mount and a nose mounted 20mm mini-gun for infantry or small vehicle attacks. The decision to mount two SRM2s instead of a more economical SRM4 came after it was found that the Militia was very effective when mounting the feared Inferno SRM rounds. Having the ability to fire at two seperate targets rather than one won out over monetary concern. Another hallmark of Devonshire engineering is the fully enclosed cockpit system and sophisticated emergency egress hatch, protecting even a House Militia pilot.

Deployment

Currently, the Devonshire Marlette factory is churning out the MTHA-1A as fast as its assembly lines will allow, producing a few dozen every couple of months. The largest concentration purchased to date has been the rebuilding AFFS March Commands, as well as the Lyran Alliance. This is expected as Devonshire has had a long history of dealings with both Great Houses. In a surprising move, two whole production runs of the Militia fighter have been shipped to the Free Worlds League. This move has raised more than one eyebrow in a number of Inner Sphere intelligence agencies, but small shipments of Mydron Excel Autocannons, seem to confirm a deal struck between the two. Additionally, a small number of the aircraft have been shipped to a number of Periphery concerns in an attempt to curb the recent rise in pirate activity.

I like it. Good loadout with decent speed, though I worry about armor coverage, but then again, it comes with a price tag that almost any militia could afford, excluding pilot training and maintainance fees of course.

Mmm... not bad. I like that it's turbine (my Egret and Shrike are both conv. turbines). Instead of the twin-SRM-2s though, I'd use a single SRM-4. That gives you a single 5-point damage allocation, which would allow you the possibility of damaging more heavily armored aicraft.

Overview:

The Bennu Heavy OmniFighter is only the second completely original aerospace fighter designed and built entirely by the Devonshire Heavy Aerospace since the company began active construction of aerospace products in the 3050s. A curious byproduct of ComStar investment, post-FedCom Civil War reconstruction and the outgrowth of the Blakist attack on the Marlette shipyards, the new Bennu’s debut is raising eyebrows throughout the Inner Sphere’s intelligence community.

Nascent development of the Bennu first began when ComStar instituted a policy of heavy investment in the Devonshire Corporation after their forced removal from Terra by the Word of Blake in 3058. No longer in control of an accessible source of supply and construction it became readily apparent to the secular organization that it needed to secure new sources of advanced war material for a ComGuards cut off from their primary logistics hub. Always with an eye towards the clandestine, the initial investment monies were funneled into Devonshire through shell corporations based out of Lyran space with as much care as time and resources allowed on such a truncated time table. Despite ComStar’s precautions, however, the sudden influx of credit in the early months of 3060 left only a handful of possible candidates and cast a certain amount of credence to rumors of possible ComStar involvement. Devonshire’s Board of Directors, more than willing to look in the other direction was more than happy to secure solvency against an increasingly grim economic future regardless of the original source. Without delving too deeply into the investment, the company happily went to work doing what it hoped to do best: design and manufacture advanced aerospace equipment.

Despite the feigned plausible deniability claimed by Devonshire’s leadership the fact remained that ComStar’s investment in the corporation was little more than an open secret and would have been cause for serious concern had Prince Davion not been preparing for the annihilation of Clan Smoke Jaguar. In the end, however, Devonshire secured its financial future and the ComGuards secured a new source for desperately needed military hardware.

The final annihilation of Clan Smoke Jaguar, the Grand Refusal and the cessation of hostilities with the invading Clans should have ushered in a new era of prosperity for the budding aerospace manufacturer. In light of the market successes of the Cepher, Exeter and Bayern aerospace fighters and inspired by Johnston Industries’ breakthroughs in Omni-technology, Devonshire’s future looked bright until the coming of the FedCom Civil War disrupted all of the corporation’s future plans. Hit hard by the fighting and market upheaval of the civil war, Devonshire went from prospective market giant to construction pauper almost overnight. But as the civil war drew to a close a number of desperate initiatives were enacted to help the company rebound. Among those, the Bennu was the most promising and expensive

Capabilities:

Drawing on the company’s earlier Verraux and Bayern designs and engineering expertise gained from ComStar’s participation in the development of the Huscarl OmniFighter, Devonshire built the Bennu as a companion aircraft to the ComGuard craft and the Federated Suns’ lighter Dagger OmniFighter.

The Bennu OmniFighter is a hefty eighty-five tons, which places the machine squarely in the heavy bracket of modern aerospace fighters. More maneuverable than most members of its class, the Bennu is propelled by a massive KalTek 340 XL fusion engine. Fed by six tons of fuel the aerospace fighter is a superb patrol or interceptor aircraft and is well suited as a dedicated carrier craft. Not as heavily armored as either the Huscarl or Eisensturm OmniFighters, the Bennu is still well armored and has over fifty percent of its total mass devoted to open pod space.

Many of the fighter’s configurations are, in some fashion, a representation or reinterpretation of a pre-existing variant currently used by another aerospace design. Never a company to cut corners like Quickcell, the Devonshire engineers selected some common variants for the Bennu in a dedicated effort to selectively market the design to prospective customers. The Bennu’s primary variant for example, is Devonshire’s take on the Eisensturm’s R3 configuration while the fighter’s B variant is a curious combination of Heavy Gauss rifles and medium lasers. Designed for anti-shipping duty, the Bennu B configuration is a dangerous adversary for any enemy DropShip to face. One of the more controversial variants to date is the erroneously marked Bennu Alpha. A recent addition to the Bennu line up, this line accurately replicates the Eminus (Alternate E) configuration of the Word of Blake’s infamous Striga OmniFighter. Popular with Bennu pilots who have faced the Shadow Divisions in combat, the Bennu A is capable of disabling enemy craft at extreme distances. Recently a disturbing new variant has made its debut among forces serving in the Word of Blake Protectorate. First seen operating with the refurbished Blakist Third Division, the Bennus flown by the division were probably examples captured from Marlette when the Word destroyed most of the yards in 3069. Dubbed the WB variant, this configuration is an exact replica of the Striga’s Luminos configuration. Although the Bennu may lack the heavy "knock out" weapon of other craft, few can boast the fighter's combination of speed, weapons, armor and staying power in one package.

Deployment:

With the successful repair of the manufacturing facilities necessary to bring a small percentage of the Marlette yards back online since the Word of Blake attack, the Devonshire Corporation has been steadily churning out the Bayern and Bennu aerospace fighters as quickly as they can be constructed. These fighters have been deployed with the devastated ComGuards, Capellan March forces, various mercenary units and have even turned up in the hands of forces serving with Alys Rousset-Marik’s resistance network. Sadly, a number of production runs of the fighter have fallen into the hands of the Word Blake. Interestingly, these Bennus are serving with regular Protectorate forces rather than in the WoB’s elite Shadow Divisions.

Notable Pilot:

Lieutenant Adam Reilly: A member of Alys Rousset-Marik’s resistance group, Reilly was given control of a Bennu after losing his upgraded Lancer to a pair of Word of Blake Rapiers during a raid on New Home in late 3075. Badly burned during the attack, Reilly spent months in recovery and developed an intense hatred of the Word of Blake. Outfitted with a new Bennu when he returned to active duty, Reilly flew the new aerospace fighter with Rousset-Marik’s resistance movement as they won a stunning victory when they infiltrated the Word-controlled Clipperton shipyards and hijacked nearly half a dozen of the new Leopard pocket warships.

Very nice design. Plenty of variety and love 'em or hate 'em, the Wobbie version is just plain deadly.
Excellent fluff as always.

Very nice, there are not enough IS omnifighters. This reminds me alot of my ROC omnifighter.

Overview:

The Magistrate-class Dropship was Devonshire's first foray into the military assault ship-class. Coming in at a grandiose 8,000 tons and bristling with conventional weaponry, the Magistrate-class was designed to destroy enemy aerospace fighters and other conventional space assets. A superb escort vessel the Magistrate suffered against capital-class opponents. Inspired by the successes of the Overlord A3 escort vessel, the company released a capital upgrade for the Magistrate class in 3066, just one year after the DropShip's first release.

Capabilities:

An expensive DropShip to produce and maintain, the Magistrate is designed as a powerful weapon of war. Equipped with a fast drive system, the Magistrate is more than capable of keeping pace with heavy and even some medium fighters in combat. The "Pocket Warship" variant offers no less, with the same massive drive system available on every ship produced. For offensive armament, the Pocket Magistrate trades much of its original array of energy weapons, including Extended Range Lasers, Extended Range PPCs and Large Pulse Lasers for a much smaller and compact energy suite. Likewise, the Magistrate was stripped of its LB20-X autocannons. However, the DropShip did retain the powerful Poland C Gauss Rifles, which can throw a hail of firepower capable of destroying most opponents in mere moments.

Replacing these weapons is a large Kraken-T capital missile launcher in the vessel's nose. This huge missile launcher is able to engage capital-class targets at extreme ranges, often causing hull breaches in DropShip-sized targets with the first salvo. Supporting the tele-operated Kraken are two smaller Barracuda-T missile launchers. A great compliment to the larger Kraken-T, the Barracuda launchers are often a nasty surprise for a vessel as small as the Magistrate.

Installation of these capital class launchers was not without cost, however, and Devonshire engineers were forced to reduce the overall weight of the ship's armor belt. Still, the Magistrate continues to enjoy heavy armor protection and is layered with an astounding 188 tons of a Ferro-Aluminum armor for maximum protection. Purchasers of the Pocket Magistrate are often surprised to learn that even this thick armor belt is thin in comparison to the original variant that supports an unbelievable 288 ton armor belt.

Battle History:

The Magistrate "Pocket WarShip" has seen intense action in only a short period since its first introduction, mainly in the hands of the Federated Suns and Word of Blake. During the Blakist blockade of New Avalon, a Magistrate DropShip was used by Word forces to bombard key portions of the planet. The same vessel was later destroyed when the Fifth FedCom RCT broke the Word naval blockade with nuclear weapons. Magistrate DropShips were also present during the Word's assault on Pesht in the Draconis Combine and remained present until Clan Ghost Bear liberated the world. The Ghost Bears, who were unfamiliar and surprised by the Magistrate's capabilities, lost a number of vessels during the assault. With coalition forces making almost daily in roads into the Blake Protectorate Magistrates will almost certainly continue to see heavy action until the Word of Blake's Jihad has met its final, bloody conclusion.

Deployment

Before the Word of Blake launched its Jihad there were sixteen Magistrate Class "Pocket WarShips" in service with the rebuilding AFFS fleet and another eight under construction at the Marlette shipyards. There were plans to sell this dangerous design to the growing SLDF and ComGuard fleets but they were curtailed by a string of bearucratic red-tape from the AFFS High Command, which did not want to share this powerful technological advantage. Unfortunately for the Federated Suns navy, when the Word of Blake struck Devonshire's shipyards in late-3069 they managed to steal seven complete Magistrates and another three incomplete ships awaiting final installment of their capital launchers. Since the heist, Word of Blake Magistrates have been seen operating in support of Word military efforts throughout the Protectorate and beyond, with Clan Ghost Bear destroying one during their cleansing of Pesht.

Nice Ship!! only Suggestion I'd make is to replace all the Med Pulse Lasers with standard and add 2 more Gauss Rifles. Very deadly.

I love it. Back when we were actively campaigning with our merc regiment, much like Dracus' story, we outfitted a Gazelle troop carrier as an escort vessel for the rest of our little fleet, jamming it to the gunwales with weapons. While not quite the horror the Magistrate is, I wish we would have thought of the term "pocket warship" for our ad hoc assault ship, the Infamous.

Too true Dracus and if this DropShip was a WoB-built design I would have added more "hijacked" equipment, but this ship was based off of an older design and not outfitted with more advanced technology. Trust me, the next will be a little more to their flavor! I appreciate the Review! Thanks!

It's like a flying gun turret. Geezus. Back when I used to play Battletech at the start of the Clan invasion in the early 90's we used to outfit our dropships with as many weapons as possible with a single 'Mech bay to accomodate our personal 'Mech. We even equipped them with capital class weaponry. Little did we know almost 20 years later they would be called "Pocket Warships".

This thing just shreds targets. Although with the WoB I would've liked to have seen a few more "acquired" items like RACs, MML's, and some Heavy PPCs in there as well to give it a Jihad era feel.

Overview:

Created in 2763 at the height of the Star League,   the Chimera   Class Cruiser was a prototype Warship built by Mitchell Vehicles Interstellar as a successor to the aged Aegis Class Cruisers slowly being phased out of the Star League Defense Force Navy and the Terran Hegemony. Cut tragically short by Stefan Amaris's violent Coup, the Chimera Class along with its Shipyard was destroyed in 2766.

Capabilities:

Mitchell engineers designed the Chimera Class to fulfill and correct every facet of the original Aegis Cruiser. Weighing in at 750,000 tons, the Chimera shares its predecessors same tonnage. However, their profiles end there. The Chimera is faster than the Aegis, capable of a constant 1.5 G acceleration and 2.5 G bursts, a direct improvement over the Aegis's smaller speed and engine. Two thousand tons of fuel feed this hungry engine. The armor was kept the same as the Aegis's, utilizing a Ferro-Carbide for increased protection and versatility. Additionally, the heat distribution capabilities of the craft were upgraded, and Interstellar designers took full advantage of the Star League's new Double Heat Sinks. These Heat Sinks are necessary to dissapate the heat generated by the Chimera's impressive weapons suite. As with the Aegis, Naval Autocannons dominate the Chimera's captial weapons arsenal. Supporting these massive cannons, are NL/55s and Barracuda capital missile launchers. Also, the designers at Mitchell Vehicles found it necessary to add anti-fighter weapons in a stark contrast to normal Star League Warship design philosophy, correcting another flaw in the venerable Aegis. For even more fighter protection, provisions were made for two squadrons of Aerofighters and two Small Craft. Usually, these Small Craft are civilian orbital buses for planetary landings, but Mitchell officials were experimenting with heavy assault Small Craft purchased from the Free Worlds League. Two Docking Collars are comparable to the Aegis's compliment, giving the Chimera the ability to transport a small assault force or escort important civilian vessels. To prevent boarding actions, there are barracks for 84 SLDF Marines, a necessary resource on a valuable cruiser. Finally,   forty escape craft ensure that in the event of catastrophic failure the crew can escape safely.

Variants:

There are no variants of this Warship. However, during its development the Mitchell designers and engineers contemplated building the finished SLDF version with a Lithium-Fusion Battery system and a slightly larger Jump Sail. Unfortunately, the tragic events of the Amaris Coup ended those plans forever.

Deployment

The Chimera Class Cruiser never left the prototype stage. Caught in her moorings during the initial seizure of Graham IV and Mitchell Vehicles Interstellar, a Rim Worlds Republic prize crew attempted to commandeer the cruiser, but loyal Star League Defense Force marines and crewmen managed to scuttle her. In the ensuing battle, fought both within and outside of her armored hull, the combatants managed to destroy a portion of the Graham IV shipyards and a docked Essex Class Destroyer undergoing refit. When the SLDF returned eight years later, the entire project was completely destroyed. General Kerensky was believed to have taken every scrap of information with him on his Exodus. What little information on the existence of this Warship comes from a few crumbling Mitchell Interstellar technical manuals and some obscure ComStar references.

I'm working on fluffing up my "everything Star League" persona... =)

Heh, finally a Star League ship from Knightmare. Great writing, and the upgrades make it completely superior to the Aegis.
