Overview:

During the height of the Golden age of the Star League, General Alexandr Kerensky became concerned with the number of "home grown" militia units appearing within the Great Houses of the Inner Sphere. Consisting mainly of infantry units, which were not counted against the maximum forces each house could field, these growing militaries were reaching a point that could eventually overwhelm the SLDF. Taking the increasing disrespect that each House Lord seemed to have with the Star League into consideration, General Kerensky commissioned the most honored Engineers of the day to construct a unit that could combat massed Infantry attacks, while still having enough of a "bite" to make the standard military unit stand back. The "Jammer" is the culmination of their efforts. This 'Mech features many of the best technologies of the day, while remaining cheap enough to mass produce.

Capabilities:

Built on a 60 ton Endo Steel II frame, the "Jammer" had enough space to wield both long-range, and short-range weaponry, and with a stanard 240 engine, enhanced with a full capacity of Jump Jets, the "Jammer" was considered maneuverable enough to combat on the modern battlefield. General Kerensky was please with these choices, and signaled the "go-ahead" to continue development.

The Engineers of the great Star League tackled the issue of the massive infantry buildup, first. Loading the arms of the "Jammer" with a pair of Machine Guns, each, they determined that the "Jammer" would be able to wade through all but the deepest infantry opposition. An additional pair of Medium Lasers was added to round out the "Jammer's" close-quarters-fighting weaponry.

Next, the Engineers looked at creating a large encounter-envelope for the "Jammer", to engage enemy forces. The respectable armament of the "Griffin" inspired the Particle Cannon/ LRM 10 payload. In order to keep an edge over general House units, the "Jammer's" Particle Cannon was upgraded to the extended-range version, while the LRM 10 was augmented with an advanced Artemis Fire Control System.

To protect the "Jammer", a respectable amount of CASE enhanced armor surrounds the 'Mech, while an advanced ECM Suite hinders enemy targeting capabilities. Double strength freezers keep the "Jammer" running cool in all but the most intense situations.

Configuration / Variants:

House Kurita developed a version of the "Jammer" that better fits their fighting style. Designated "JAM-2K", this version is different enough to warrant its own entry.

Battle History:

Davion "Jammers" faced off against House Liao forces early in the First Succession War. The fighting was fierce, but the advanced "Jammers" were able to push the Capellan army back time and time again. Unfortunately, as the terrible War raged on, House Davion's ability to replace the advanced components dwindled the number of "Jammers" they were able to field.

House Kurita took time to modify their "Jammers", and surprised the Lyran military late in the First Succession War, with their advanced technologies. Unfortunately, they suffered the same fate as the Davion "Jammers", and had to down-grade to standard-tech, by the beginning of the Second Succession War.

Deployment:

With the eventual fall of the Star League, two of the five Great Houses were able to appropriate the main bulk of the SLDF "Jammers" that had been produced.

Five shipments, of 50 "Jammers" each, were being shipped out of the main production facility on New Earth, to the SLDF garrisons on Benjamin and David. House Davion and House Kurita split four of the "Jammer" shipments evenly. The final shipment seems to have never left New Earth, although confirmation of the completed order is available. We are sending operatives to secure these forgotten 'Mechs for our cause.

The Davion forces continue to use the original version, while House Kurita techs modified the "Jammer" to fit their fighting style.

A mix between the Griffin and the anti infantry capacities of some lighter 'Mechs.
The use of the background of the Star League is a nice idea too.

Taking an SL route for this challenge was a great idea, cheers.

Overview:

Kuritan engineers took the time to completely rebuild the "Jammer" model into a 'Mech that better fits their fighting style.

Capabilities:

House Kurita dropped the Jump Jets and Machine Guns in order to increase the weapon payload and cooling capasity of the original "Jammer".

By down-grading the ER PPC to an ER Large Laser, Kuritan techs were able to increase the LRM rack to a 20 shot. An additional ton of ammunition was added to keep the number of shots the same. The arm mounts were changed to a pair of Medium Lasers each, in order to increase its short-range damage capabilities.

The Armor, CASE system, and ECM Suite were kept, to further protect the 'Mech.

Configuration / Variants:

This is the TRO for the Kuritan redesigned "Jammer". The origional version is listed in the Jammer-JAM-1R TRO.

Battle History:

House Kurita took time to modify their "Jammers", and surprised the Lyran military late in the First Succession War, with their advanced technologies. Unfortunately, they suffered the same fate as the Davion "Jammers", and had to down-grade to standard-tech, by the beginning of the Second Succession War.

Deployment:

The Kuritan "Jammer" is usually deployed within fire-support Lances, to protect them from raider and AeroSpace attacks.

Those Kurita, they could never thought of infantry as a decent weapon and would prefer the 'Mech to 'Mech fight. Really great idea.
The only problem I do see is that the GECM is meant for rather close combat operations where this 'Mech would not really shine. Maybe you could exchange it for one more ton of ammo and o.5 ton of armor (plus switching the ammo to the RT, which is more logical).

Overview:

By the beginning of the Third Succession War, all of the Great Houses had lost the capacity to produce the advanced components of the Star League. Fortunately, the supreme survivability of the "Jammer" design allowed it to enter this era with little loss of ability. Both House Davion and House Kurita were able to field a "low-tech" version of their designs.

Capabilities:

House Davion had stayed true to the original "Jammer" design throughout the first two Succession Wars. With help from their best techs, they were able to keep the "Jammer" a viable fighting machine, while replacing the Star League technologies with "modern" equivalents.

Keeping the Machine Guns, Lasers, Missiles, Particle Cannon, and Jump Jets, Davion techs only lost slight accuracy from the long-range weapons. As far as the short-range weapons are concerned, the loss of the double strength freezers splits the "Jammer's" weaponry into the familiar "Long" and "Short" ranges of the current era. Unfortunately, some Armor coverage had to be sacrificed, but the all-round protection is still respectable by today's standards.

Configuration / Variants:

House Kurita developed a version of the "Jammer" that better fits their fighting style. Designated "JAM-4K", this version is different enough to warrant its own entry.

Battle History:

Davion and Kuritan "Jammers" finally faced each other in a tragic battle when a Davion assault attacked the Kuritan held Quentin system. The fighting was fierce, as a Company of Kuritan "Jammers" held the advantage at long range, from their fortified positions with AeroSpace and Infantry support. A Company of Davion "Jammers" waded fearlessly through the Kuritan infantry barricade, routing the masses, as they closed with their counterparts. The rest of the Davion Battalion covered their advance and protected the flanks. While the Davion "Jammers" were more maneuverable than the Kuritan versions, at close range, the battle ended with the Davion forces pulling back, and leaving with only two battered "Jammers" remaining. Only three Kuritan "Jammers" were able to be assembled from the wreckage left behind.

Deployment:

Of the original 100 "Jammers" that House Davion was able to appropriate, only twelve survive to this day. They are disbursed thinly through the Federate Suns' Military, with three helping to protect New Avalon.

Overview:

House Kurita was able to keep the main weapon load of their version of the "Jammer" in tact.

The loss of the advanced, Star League era, technologies was unfortunate, but this version of the Kuritan "Jammer" remains a viable fighting force within the DCMS.

Capabilities:

The Large Laser and LRM 20 remain as the 'Mech's long-range punch, while the four Medium Lasers continue to play an important role at short-ranges.

Configuration / Variants:

With the loss of the ability to produce advanced Star League Era Technologies, Kuritan techs were forced to reconfigure their "Jammers" with standard tech. This TRO represents the "low-tech" variant of the JAM-2K "Jammer"

Only three Kuritan "Jammers" were able to be assembled from the wreckage left behind.

Deployment:

The Kuritan "Jammer" continues to protect fire-support lances, but the dwindling numbers mean that few are seen on today's battlefield. Of the original 100 "Jammers" that the Draconis Combine took, we estimate that less than two lances remain.

Overview:

With the taint of the OmniFirestarter an OmniBlackjack fiasco deepening the rift between the Davion and Kuritan engineers, the two House Lords stepped in, and came up with a project that both sides could take pride in. They brought both sets of engineers together to rekindle the ancient "Jammer" design.

Capabilities:

The "OmniJammer" quickly took shape as the engineers on both sides were encouraged to work together to create a unified 'Mech. Everyone saw the potential that the old design had, and quickly moved to improve on what the Star League engineers had produced.

Starting, by rebuilding the Endo Steel chassis, they improved performance with the inclusion of a faster 300XL Engine. Many of the original technologies have been incorporated into the new "OmniJammer".

Configuration / Variants:

The Primary Variant is very similar to the original Star League "Jammer". The ERPPC was brought back, along with the LRM design and arm payload. Weapon performance was increased, with the addition of a fifth Machine Gun. Everyone agreed that half a ton of ammunition was plenty for any standard engagement, leaving each Gun with twenty shots before the ammo-bay runs dry. Unfortunately, the Hand Actuators had to be dropped to compensate for the larger engine and additional Jump Jet.

The "A" variant closely resembles the Kuritan "Jammer" model. The increased speed and inclusion of the advanced C3-Targeting system allows this version to better protect their fire-support brethren.

The "B" variant is a mix of Davion and Kuritan engineering. Featuring an LB 10-X AutoCannon, backed up with paired Streak Missile systems, and an ER Medium Laser in each arm, this version of the "Jammer" serves well in an anti-aircraft/crit-finder role. Jump Jets add to the maneuverability, while the standard ECM and CASE systems protect the 'Mech during combat.

The final "C" variant is a new model, featuring the Kuritan built Heavy MRM System, supported by paired Large Lasers. This radically new variant is capable of supporting their C3-Brawler comrades from just outside the main battle. The distinctive ECM Suite is also present in this model, protecting itself and its companions from enemy advanced targeting systems.

Battle History:

The "OmniJammer" is proving itself as a viable design, although few have yet had the opportunity to gain distinction within the Kuritan and Davion Military.

Deployment:

Luthien Armor Works is constructing "OmniJammers" for deployment along the Kuritan/Ghost Bear border.

Davion produced "OmniJammers" are watching over the Chaos March.

How to nicely finish 310 years of development with a OmniMech (the best of the R&D in 'Mech) that keeps the original spirit while improving it and allowing it to perform new roles.
Really great job.

Warhawk 0 8/16/2004

A rather nice progression of the Jammer design. Fluff is good and the variants all make sense and expand on the original models rather nicely.
A job well done.
