Overview: 31
Among the odd and frightening designs that Clan Diamond
Shark obtained from Solaris was a Sagittaire. It appears
that during one of the tournaments they witnessed how
effective the design was when many of its weapons had
been replaced with Clan versions. They liked what they
saw.

After sending the information back to their technician
caste, a quick refit was undertaken. The result is one of
the most brutal second-line machines ever. So brutal, in
fact, that as soon as the first battle involving one
occurred, the rest of the Clans quickly fought Trials for the
design.

The simple replacement of all the weaponry alone makes
the design frighteningly effective. The weight savings of
these weapons allowed for an additional small laser to be
added, as well as a lighter targeting computer. Armor was
maximized, and several heat sinks added. The relocation
of the jump jets also adds to the allure of the design.

Though it is unknown how the Wolf's Dragoons gained
access to this design, it is speculated that they refit a few
models of their own. While the heat curve is still quite
fierce, the devastating amount of damage that can be
done outweighs this greatly.

The one variant of the base refit design refrains from
adding armor or the extra small laser. Instead, it uses the
weight for an additional heat sink that makes the design
even more lethal.

The only advantage I see is that it can cool two more heat points by round, which is always interesting when you have such high heat weapons.

The result is an extremely potent design that could prove a real threat in the years to come.   Mounting an ER PPC, LRM-15 with Artemis IV fire-control, a large pulse laser, three medium pulses, the design is formidible. Tying all the direct fire weapons to an advanced targeting computer only makes it more so. Further, the design mounts maximized armor protection thanks to special composites. And most frighteningly, it also mounts enough heat sinks to run efficiently even with a constant rate of fire.   Currently confined to six Clans, plus the Warden Wolves, this design is still something to be watched carefully. Rumors that the Dragoons may have a similar machine are likely to be borne out, simply because of their level of initiative and skill.   Type: Zeus IIC 5 Technology Base: Clan Custom Tonnage: 80   Equipment        Mass Internal Structure:       8.0 Engine:       320 XL     11.5    Walking MP:  4    Running MP:  6    Jumping MP:  0 Heat Sinks:    22 [44]   12 Gyro:     4 Cockpit:  3 Armor Factor: 250 FF    13.0         Internal   Armor         Structure  Value    Head:     3        9    Center Torso:    25       38    Center Torso (Rear):      12    R/L Torso:       17       26    R/L Torso (Rear):  8    R/L Arm: 13       26    R/L Leg: 17       34    BV : 2478   Cost : 18325201 Weapons and Ammo  Location   Critical   Heat     Mass ER PPC        LA 2       15       6.0 LRM-15        RA         2        5       3.5 Artemis IV FCS        RA 1        0       1.0 @LRM-15 (16)  RA 2        0       2.0 Medium Pulse Laser    RT 1        4       2.0 Medium Pulse Laser    CT 1        4       2.0 Large Pulse Laser     LT 2       10       6.0 Medium Pulse Laser    LT 1        4       2.0 Targeting Computer    RT 4        0       4.0 * ACTUATORS RA LA HS RL1 LL1 RT2 LT3 RA2 LA1 FF LA5 RT1 LT1   * END

The most dangerous but the less likely to exist as it packs a XL engine, a Targeting Computer and Ferro Fibrous, all this on a second line 'Mech.

A Clan refit of lethal grace and efficiency, the Cestus IIC is
rare mostly for the frequency of combats involving them.
The weapons systems are quite efficient for their means,
and the heat curve of this design is such that heat
problems are exceedingly rare.

Those few that remain are spread more or less evenly
throughout the Clans, and are to be feared by any
opponent that comes upon them in battle.

Not a bad retrofit but I would have expected this to become what it was intented to be: a medium fire support 'Mech.
I am sure that with Clan Tech, this should be feasible.

Overview: 34
Another apparent acquisition from the realm of machines
being sold by their old owners (or their stables) on Solaris
by the Diamond Sharks is that of a modified -9M
Thunderbolt. Apparently impressed with some of the
upgrades done, they sent the plans back to their Khans,
who then commissioned a production run of the design,
after the refit process was completed.

The design mounts a Gauss Rifle in place of the base
design's Light version. This is not unexpected, and
actually was a modification made by the previous owner.
The LRM rack was moved to the left torso, and an Artemis
fire-control added. The three medium lasers were swapped
with that system, and thus the profile is a slight bit different.
It appears this exchange was done by the prior pilot in
order to not lose both his main weapons in one blow.

A pair of heat sinks were added to the design, as well as
the use of special composites in the armor. This gives the
design maximized armor protection. The jump jets were
also relocated to the side torsos, to allow for
maneuverability in rough terrain. Lastly, a single light laser
is placed in the rear center torso.

Since production was started, three other Clans have
acquired the design from the Diamond Sharks. As well, the
Warden Wolves and the Dragoons have models of the
design.

There is one reported variant created during the Diamond
Sharks' process. This version uses a flamer in place of the
light laser. It appears to be more in line with the machine
acquired by them on Solaris, as the flair for the dramatic is
often key there, and flamers do well in that role.

Was making a new 'Mech for only exchanging the ER Small Laser for a Flamer worth it?
I think I would prefer the IIC 2 as the ER Small Laser seems a bit more versatile.
