3025 Archer

Archer IIC 'D6-A'

Custom Level 2 / 3050 Clan  Biped 70 Tons
Shuriken Dreadnought Industries Incorporated

Archer IIC 'D6-A'

Chassis: Endo Steel
Power Plant: Fuji Heavy Industries 280 XL
Cruising Speed: 43
Maximum Speed: 64.5
Jump Jets: none
   Jump Capacity: none
Armor: Standard with CASE
Armament:
   4 LRM 20s
   2 Medium Pulse Lasers
Manufacturer: Dreadnought Industries, Inc.
   Primary Factory: Ramsey Groundwerks
Communications System: Garret Supremesound
Targeting and Tracking System: Federated Hunter Mark II

Overview:
A straight-forward enough design. This 'Mech boasts up-to-date and augmented versions of the firepower it became so well-known for back in the hay-day of the Star League. This 'Mech, in classic Dreadnought style, resembles almost completely its Star League-era counterpart - at least until the missile rack cover-doors open. When one takes into consideration the cost of using Assault-Class support 'Mechs, the reason for the creation of this 'Mech becomes clear. The specs speak for themselves with this design.

Capabilities:
The Archer IIC 'D6'-series consists of two similar models that take slightly different approaches to achieve the same goals - the 'D6-A' boasts a quartet of Long-Range Missile 20-racks, while the 'D6-B' utilizes a slightly more accurate, but smaller primary arsenal of four Long-Range Missile 15-racks all tied to Artemis IV Fire-Control Systems. Both designs have a slightly varied Medium-class Laser array for defense, both dedicate a noticeable amount of their mass to a considerable ammunition-store, and both are quite heat efficient. Quite the package, indeed.

Deployment:
A support 'Mech, through-and-through. Capable of delivering a moderately serious blow with each salvo, but more importantly, able to stay around for an extended period, this 'Mech is clearly best-suited for relatively open terrain with high visibility, and does well when assigned a defense post.

Now this fire support 'Mech could still be useful in Trials and one vs. one fights.
Its only problem is its lack of secondary firepower: 4 ER Medium Lasers would be better.

Nice job.

Hmmm... real heavy on the firepower, but the clans ideals about supporting-fire still stand (they were never hot on it ). While the 4 LRM 20's are real nice and damaging, I find that the 2 MPL's don't really fit the rest of the design- one of the major things about the original Archer were the two Rear-firing lasers, and it just doesn't seem to be one without them; I would like to see those MPL's removed for two arm mounted ER ML's and two rear-firing ER ML's.

Not bad, keeps the original mission and does it better.

More secondary firepower for a little decrease in the one provided by the LRM.

Better than your other Archer IIC.

3025 Battlemaster

Battlemaster IIC 'D1'

Battlemaster IIC 'D1'

Jump Jets: Chevron II
   Jump Capacity: 120 meters
Armor: Durallex Heavy Special with CASE

   1 Gauss Rifle
   1 LRM 20
Manufacturer: Dreadnought Incorporated
   Primary Factory: Ramsey Groundwerks
Communications System: Garret T20C
Targeting and Tracking System: Federated Hunter Mark II

Overview:

Created as a replacement for the long-beloved, and frankly outdated, classic Battlemaster Battlemech, Dreadnought Inc. decided to start from scratch, with a whole new idea as to how to build the 'Mech. With the availability of Clan technology having become mainstream, the idea to recreate this entire design using purely Clan-devised construction techniques and armament became possible.

The final idea was to create a unit that would actually look virtually identical to the old BLR-1G design, but with surprising capabilities - A 'Sleeper.' If such a thing is possible with an Assault 'Mech, this is the best representation of that possibility. Already, many opposing units have been caught off-guard by this unit, decieved by the exterior design into believing it was simply an old Succession-War relic.

Capabilities:

With a seemingly range-focused set of weapons, namely the 'Rifle-mounted' stylized Gauss Rifle and Extended-Range Large Laser, along with the Long-Range Missile 20-rack, most critics believed that this 'Mech would only see long-range support roles, and, admittedly, the mild-to-moderate lack of rear armor does support this theory. However, the primary weapons selected in the armament of this unit were simply chosen because of their ability to work at nearly any range, and when combined with the quartet of Extended-Range medium-class lasers, the total armament is able to produce an escalating amount of damage as the Battlemaster IIC closes with its target. Most importantly, however, is that this unit can use all of its weapons constantly, when at a walking pace, with zero heat build-up.

However, with the ability to move at the highest speed, and jump the maximum distance achievable by its class, this unit is far from the standard idea when one thinks of an Assault 'Mech. The entire idea behind the agility and armor coverage being that if the enemy has gotten into a position where he's behind you, and you have no cover, either you are in the middle of a flat desert, or you have made a considerable tactical mistake.

The only unforseen surprise in designing this 'mech was the amount of necessary support that a Gauss-Rifle and Extended-Range Large laser package in a 'hold-out style rifle' required. While the right arm appears to have a lower actuator, as it always appears to be bent at the elbow, it is merely an aesthetic fluke that happened to work towards the goal of the 'Sleeper' design - the right arm does not actually have any additional actuators other than the necessary shoulder and upper arm joint.

Deployment:

While this unit has passed full field-test qualifications to be a representative of Dreadnought Incorporated's main-line productions, however has only seen limited field action. During initial tests, however, this 'Mech has already seen a wide multitude of success in engagements that are unfortunately, thus-far, classified.

Variants:

None are yet scheduled, however a revamp of the design, removing the Artemis IV, to be replaced with 0.5 tons of additional armor and an ER Small-class laser has been proposed, and is currently in the testing phase. Also under consideration is a relocation of two of the leg-mounted jump-jets to be moved to the center-torso, but thus-far this has proved to be too difficult to do without compromising the cooling capability of the chassis, as well as complicating the torso construction beyond reason.

I would really have gone towards a Clan version of the BattleMaster (ie either a lighter version or one packed with more weapons than you could dream of).
As Toodles said, it is potent fire support design but it lacks the jack-of-all-trades feeling of the older BattleMaster.

I am also a bit surprised about the way your weapons are placed: I would have split the ER Large Laser and the Gauss Rifle, just in case.

I'm not sure it could really replace the old Battlemaster, considering it has all clan tech. another thing is that it is more centered towards fire support, not a jack of all trades.

Eh, I kinda had to put the Large with the Gauss - no other place that I could put it without violating the entire point behind it, sadly - afterall, the rifle is a double-barrel. :-\ I was trying to, like it says in the fluff, create a 'sleeper' with all of the weapons-slots fitting the oldschool miniature. ;
