Special Report: Andrew Solvenia, Scientist-General

March 18, 3063

|-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|

The path that has led us to this point in our journey has been a curving arc of shadows, fire, and smoke, broken by moments of stark light that never revealed more than a small hint of what was to come. When our founders set us on this path, did they know the end? Did our most beloved Khan Sandra Rosse understand the significance of her actions or the events that would unfold? One cannot help but ponder these questions.

Regardless, we Nova Cats have always relied on visions and portents to guide us through the murky depths of the future. The fact that out of the twenty Clans created by the Founder, three have been absorbed, two annihilated, and one sundered shows the dangers that come as the waves of time wash past. Yet here we stand members of a new Star League. Does this not prove our feet trod the correct path? Our lost brethren have named us traitors and cast us out. Yet I say again, we are members of the Star League, and we will marshal all our forces to help it survive and grow.

Biccon Winters, Oathmaster, Clan Nova Cat 18 March 3062

=========================================================================================

I can never forget those faithful words spoken that day by our great Oathmaster. Ever since we, that is, the Clan Nova Cat, relocated to the Star League, our Khan, Satin West, has been on a tangent about the complete reconstruction of the clan's Touman. The Crusader Clans have succeeded in de-clawing much of the might of the Nova Cats, however, our state will not remain forever and as long as Khan West pushes this reconstruction effort, the probability that we will rise again is great.

Part of the effort has required my team and I to produce several new battlemech designs and produce them in large enough quantities that new clusters and galaxies could be formed. In the past year, three new front-line mechs of the light and medium weight classes have been developed in sufficient numbers the shaping clusters of the Nova Cat Touman.

Three months ago, Khan Satin West came to me and outlined his need for a new heavy battlemech to replace some of the smaller 60 ton designs still in use. I accepted the request and quickly assembled my team.

This team consisted of 25 technicians, led by Master Technician Hammerick, and about 5 engineers, led by myself. We debated the template for our heavy design and agreed that modifying the popular Timber Wolf would suffice, as all of present designs favored long ranged combat.

Because of funding issues, our modification options were limited; I was forced to relinquish several advanced components for less expensive parts. The Timber Wolf chosen was a primary variant that had previously seen major combat and was deemed less-than-effective, thus it became our template.

The starting procedure was to strip the mech. From there, we followed a drawing one of my men had presented.

Because the mech was to be a front-line mech capable of intense, short-range combat, the three aspects of armor, mobility, and weapons had to be both maintained and enhanced.

First Step: Mobility

Most Timber Wolves are able to maintain a ground speed of over 64 k/kph, not including jump jets or a MASC system. Unfortunately, due to my choice of armament, little space was left for a high powered reactor. After modifying my specs a little, I was able to accommodate an average sized extra-light core. It was this component that virtually expended my funding allowance.

After reviewing several simulations, I was disgruntled at the results. The mech, while able to compete with the best assault mechs around, it could not keep up with the medium and heavy mechs it was designed to hunt. To compensate for this lacking, Hammerick suggested the use of jump jets mounted in the lower legs of the mech. I ran a few more simulations and found the mech performed much closer to my expectations, thus four jump jets were installed, completing the first step.

Second Step: Armor/Internal Structure

The next step in the modification process was the overall defense of the battlemech. Lacking of proper funding necessitated the removal of both the Ferro-fibrous and Endo-steel components, a move that created some friction with the rest of my design crew. The only option I was left with was to drop the armor factor by nearly one full ton. Though not very wise considering the proximity the mech will be in comparison to its enemies, any other changes would make the mech far less effective.

Third Step: Weapons

Finally, after spending nearly two months working out the understructure of the prototype, we were able to move on to the weapons array.

As with all Timber Wolves, the shoulder pods are loaded with several racks of missiles. Unlike other Timber Wolves, the ordinance used is not meant for long range use. I chose to amplify the mech's short-ranged capabilities by having two Streak SRM/4's installed in the left shoulder pod. This addition greatly enhances ammunition efficiency and damage application.

The primary weapon of the new Timber Wolf is a massive LB 20-X cannon mounted in the right arm weapons pods. Fed by both cluster and slug ammunition, the cannon is fully capable of inflicting killing blows in only a few salvos.

Note: the ammunition for the LB 20-X is loaded in the right shoulder pod

While that big autocannon amounts for the majority of the mech's weapons array, it is still ammunition-dependent, making it very ineffective under most circumstances. The second primary weapon is a large pulse laser that was installed in the left arm pod. It is this weapon that will be used most often and provides for all long-range capabilities. Secondary weapons include two medium pulse lasers that ride both above and under the cockpit.

Concluding this report is my belief that this Mad Cat will be more than a match for any crusader foolish enough to think its short-range capabilities make it an easy target.

Capabilities:

Andrew Solvenia's choice in a modified Timber Wolf reflects his desire for a short-range combatant that equally as powerful as its long ranged counter-parts.

The inclusion of jump jets makes the Mad Cat one of the most deadly heavy battlemechs available as it allows the pilot to briefly jump into and out of enemy LOS. This can be a deciding factor in all battles involving the mech as it is critical when fighting faster and more maneuverable enemies. When couple with a large group of precision weapons, the result is pure destruction.

Variants:

The Mad Cat is related closely to the Inner Sphere Mad Cats and the Timber Wolves.

Battle History:

This mech will enter service in the next two or three months/

Deployment:

75% of the Nova cat Touman will field the Mad Cat.

Nice firepower at close range but it will need the supressive fire of others to manage to get into range (which is something alien to the Clans). However, the jump jets might prove an important asset in any ground to get close enough.
Nice job but as Lonely Coyote, I fear for the over specialisation of this design if it becomes too important in the Touman of the Nova Cats.

Warhawk 4 2/8/2006

The fluff is rather interesting and a few minor fluff points that I feel should be addressed though: the Nova Cat Khan is Santin West. Scientists don't really have Bloodnames, they just have labnames, which the Warriors allow them to use grudgingly. That's the only fluff traits that jump out at me about this 'Mech.

As Lonely commented, the format is nice with the fluff looking like a report to the Khan or from the personal journal of the designer.

As to the design itself, the firepower is rather nice at close range, but it does fall a bit short in another arena aside from close-in combat. Of course the Grand Melee will prove to be something else entirely.

Lonely Coyote 4 2/8/2006

I really like the "Special Report". It gives the fluff a very personal feel.

My biggest concern, is the idea that the majority of the touman is going to field a single design. As it is not even an OmniMech, this will lead to flaws and shortcomings being found very quickly and this over-specialization leads to death, not growth.

It will be interesting to see how this performs in the trials.

Passage: 374, Verse 3, Lines 17 - 24

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Date: January 7, 3067

"We can do that. Thank you. Good bye."

Replacing the wireless phone back on its receiver, a well built man leaned into his office chair. The look on his face was one of elation, knowing his company had just obtained another contract. He rubbed his rough face, passing steadily over each bristle of hair on his unshaven chin. The coarseness of the light beard pleased him as he carefully overviewed the possible reaction from his rivals: Pyrotechnix and GTKE.

The two opposing companies, though in a blood feud with each other, had not given into the coup that SLATE Armories might begin stealing their contracts while they were in competition. That SLATE had recently made a good impression on the finicky Ghost Bear clan was not helping.

Stabbing a couple of buttons on his COM, David Loren, CEO of SLATE, paged his lead engineer. He leaned back into the tall-backed chair and continued to scratch his chin.

In recent months, Pyrotechnix and GTKE have each raided four shipments of battlemech armor plates. The retaliation was swift, coming from an angry FEAR unit, who retrieved the stolen goods en route to their new destination. Things were indeed getting messy.

KNOCK! KNOCK!

David pulled his legs from the desk and quickly rearranged some of the clutter on his desk. "Come in."

The door opened silently and closed just the same. Walking through was another well built guy in his mid thirties. His navy blue engineer uniform was piped in a shade of silver that borderlined black. Over his chest was a patch of his company's logo, the Star League banner. He walked over to his superior's desk and dropped a black notebook on the desktop. "You called sir?"

"Tony, looks like we have another contract."

"From whom?"

"Nova Cats." David Loren folded his arms tightly across his chest.

Tony Venters only raised an eyebrow.

"As inferior as they are. Pyrotechnix and GTKE have just unveiled their latest, next-gen assault mechs. We cannot afford to fall too far behind. Things need to move quickly."

"I agree sir. " Tony opened his notebook and prepared a pen. "I take it I will be working through R&D Plant D-C?"

Each of the facilities under SLATE Armory's control was tagged by a two letter code separated by a dash. The letter preceding the dash indicated the planet it was located on and the letter after the dash tell what faction the world belonged to. In this case, D-C stood for Dieron-Combine.

"Yes. The flight will take a few weeks, so you should be able to get something for me by then, right?" David started to type furiously at his keyboard, bringing up the status of Plant D-C.

"Aff." Tony closed his book, noting grimly that he hadn't written anything in it for the past several days. He stood and made for the door.

"When the prototype tests out, send me a report about it." Loren offered a smile and gave a thumbs up.

"Aff, sir."

Subject: Necro Cat report

Hello, sir.

I just got back from the test facility. About two hours ago, we got through with the final evaluation trial for the Necro Cat omnimech. To tell you the truth, I was getting uncharacteristically bored with the whole project. I mean, there isn't much fun in upgrading an existing model. So, I personally took part in the tests. That is, I piloted each of the configurations of this mech and ran them to their limits.

Anyway, I was wondering if you still wanted a detailed report about the mech.

Very good, and in record time. Yes, go ahead with the report.

RE: Necro Cat report

The Necro Cat is an upgrade off of the existing Nova cat heavy omnimech our client produces. To be honest, it isn't an exact upgrade, rather a new model based off of the Nova Cat. Anyway, to keep costs down, it is constructed of standard clan tech. Nothing truly special. The undercarriage is built using standard materials, just as the armor is. I wanted to have at least ferro-fibrous installed, but that would dramatically increase the cost of the mech. The fusion core is also standard. It is an Omni 300, so mobility is more or less average for its size. Compensating the lack of maneuverability is a trio of hardwired Swingline X-1000 jumpjets. In all honesty, these thrusters could be about the only thing that will save this mech during matches against faster opponents.

Since I was dealing with omnipods, I decided to split the mech's weaponry into three groups...three configurations, if you may. One is an all-rounder that doubles as a very deadly sniper, another config. is designed for urban and close-up combat, and the third variant is a support model that doubles a heavily ammo dependant assault model. So, I will start with the first config.

At first glance, anyone can mistake the Alpha config as the Nova Cat Prime. Mostly because the arrangement of the weapons and the choice in weapons is strikingly similar. The left arm is fitted with a trio of extended range large lasers, a very lethal group because the shear range it can hit at goes beyond the scope of most weapons commonly used today. Backing the main group up is an extended range particle cannon in the right arm. Again, a long range cannon, when used in tandem with the lasers, it will only take two, maybe three direct strikes to make a kill on any target. If combat rears close enough, a secondary medium pulse laser mounted near the PPC can be used to great effect, stripping armor swiftly and making holes for the big guns to open further. I would like to note that this configuration generates a monstrous amount of heat. To compensate, heh, I made sure nineteen tons of extra dual-chambered heat exchangers were installed, canceling out the heat curve and allowing for every weapon to fired at once at any given time.

The second configuration is the Beta model. Designed to be an assault config. the Beta is equipped specifically for that particular task. Appropriated in the left arm are two medium pulse lasers and an extended range particle cannon, much like the Alpha model. This combination alone is highly reputable on some clan medium omnis. Well, breaking off the similarities is a LB-20X autocannon mounted on the left arm omnipod. I was careful to include both slug and flak ammunition when writing up the technical readout for the design. Rounding the beast off is a second pair of medium pulse lasers wired to the center torso. I am sure the psychological effect when one meets the Beta model would be astounding. Anyway, as with the Alpha config, this model also generates plenty of heat, something I was astute to keep under wraps. 9 tons of double-chamber heat sinks wrap the Necro Cat Beta's hot-spots, keeping the mech cool even when every weapon has been fired simultaneously.

The final configuration of the Necro cat is the support model, Delta. This version looks very different from other mechs as the weapon pods in each arm were reconfigured completely. In place of the familiar cannons are two box-like ATM/6 launchers. Personally, I wanted something more round, but the boxy appearance was necessary since the launcher is be equipped with two kinds of ammunition bins, one for extended range ammo and one for high explosive ammo. In any case, this configuration is designed to volley salvos of twenty-four missiles at every opportunity, effectively cleaning house of any real threats. Once the ER missile bin has been depleted, the mech seamlessly converts to an assault model. The HE ammo bin is opened and the brawl begins. As the gap closes, the pilot can then open up with his chest mounted medium pulse laser and the class 10 ultra autocannon riding over the left shoulder. The combination of 24 high explosive missiles, an UAC/10 on double fire mode, and a medium pulse laser is simply beyond imagination. And I probably do not have to stress how much heat this model builds up. Once again, this little thorn has been clipped as five tons of double strength heat exchangers was installed, curbing the heat curve and allowing the mech run cool even when it is alpha striking a target.

Completing this report is a final note that compared to our competition, the Psychosis and the Blodig Björn, the Necro Cat costs only 14.5 million c-bills, at most. That is less than half the cost those expense-heavy mechs. Competition? Heh, we own them.

RE: Necro Cat report

Heh, heh, heh. Careful now Tony, we don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves. I am definitely impressed with this project, most certainly a success by any standard. The cost issue is by far the most eye-catching. To be able to fit so much using so little is your best trait, and the reason you have not yet been reassigned. Thank you for the time and effort you have placed these last eleven months.

You are right though, GTKE and Pyrotechnix cannot say they have us now.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Deployment:

The Necro Cat was produced in considerable numbers between 3067 and 3069. At the beginning of 3070, production died down to a few models per year. Those that were built were deployed and appropriated in moderate groups to several front-line and garrison clusters in the Nova Cat Touman.

Battle History:

As the Nova Cats have not entered in any major military conflict since their relocation to the Star League, the only recorded history of the Necro Cat's battles took place during the tests matches run on Dieron in 3067. The following takes place on December 20, 3067 at 1200 hours.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A young man, possibly around 32 years old, walked into the mech hanger wearing a mechwarrior's garb. The jet black jumpsuit was piped in silver and had numerous entry plugs for various sensors and other peripherals. He gathered, from one of the techs nearby, a neurohelmet. Carrying it under his arm, the pilot stood before the first of three enormous battlemechs in the hanger. Each looked strikingly similar to each, for the exception of their weapon layout. The one he was eyeing appeared to be a much heavier version of the Nova Cat, an omnimech well renowned for its capabilities in the field. It was no surprise why he and his team chose that mech as the template for this series: the Necro cat. The name chosen for its implied reference. Necro, meant to revive from the dead, to live after death. As the mech was a shattered clan, one that held a former glory unsurpassed by any other clan save the Wolves, it was very fitting since this clan was slowly living after a dishonorable death.

"Is it ready?" He asked in a blank tone. There was no joy nor was there any fear present.

"Yes sir. Alpha is prepared for the trials. You may proceed when ready." A tech hanging by several bungie cords slid down the front of an Alpha configured Necro Cat.

Tony Venters strolled casually to a steel ladder extending from the cockpit of the Necro Cat, grabbing one of the rungs with a hand, he climbed to the top and entered the cockpit. The first thing he did once in the command couch was plug several sensors into his coolant vest. Then he plugged the coolant pipes into the vest. Tony started the mech, its fusion core roaring as it pumped superheated plasma around the conductors.

"Necro cat Alpha config. is ready for test one. Roll 'em out." Tony had been in a mech before. In fact, he a former lieutenant in the Federated Suns military. This was no problem for him. He knew how to operate such machines to great effect, usually pushing them beyond their limits, but nonetheless showing what his pawn is truly capable of.

Stepping the mech into the open battlefield, Tony double checked his weapons. The particle cannon was charged, the ER large lasers were ready, and the medium pulse laser was just a trigger pull away from razing the Summoner slowly crossing the test field border. This was to be a one on three match where the Necro Cat would face its enemies one at a time.

Darting to the left, the Summoner, Thor to the Sphere, drew first blood with a direct hit from one of its ER PPC, sloughing armor off of the left torso and streaking the right with excess electrical charge. Tony got into the action immediately. Breaking into a run to the opposite of the Summoner, the Necro Cat pulled out of range of just about every weapon, except the particle gun. The field was totally clear, no obstructions, no hiding spots, nothing. Tony was going to make the best of it. Just as he punched the jumpjets, a second bolt of manmade lightning zipped by, blackening parts of the cockpit but not causing any damage. Still in the air, Tony lowered the crosshairs on the running Thor. He waited. Waited some more...the Necro Cat was beginning its decent. Finally, milliseconds before hitting the ground, Tony pulled the trigger. In a bright starburst of energy, all large lasers and the PPC collimated into what looked like a single beam. That beam struck the Summoner in the chest, just a few degrees off target, but nevertheless in the right area. He could see the cockpit break apart and the pilot punch out. Below him, the Thor flashed white then exploded, sending metal fragments plinking into the Necro Cat.

The next Opponent was a Night Gyr. The 75 ton monster stood with arrogance, staring darkly at the Necro Cat, silently giving it the Kiss of Death. "Bring it on." Tony thought, as he and the Gyr walked around each other, a circle of equals being drawn. Venters let his opponent start the brawl again. That he did do. Breaking the silence was a loud BRAT as the Night Gyr let loose the fury of its Ultra AC/10. The large slugs being fired on double mode chewed deeply into the Necro Cat. Tony wrought back in a flame of fury. From the cockpit of the enemy, a massive crimson beam sliced across his left arm, knocking out of commission the autocannon by welding the barrels shut and melting the feeding mechanism badly. Tony started to back away slowly, the ever-growing circle was about to open up. The Night Gyr followed suit and started a jog to one side of the circle. Venters cut the path off with a spray of emerald darts. That didn't seem to work though as the Gyr continued on its path, ignoring the quarter ton of armor it had just lost. Spinning on its heel, the enemy rounded and fired not only its right arm gauss rifle but also its heavy large laser. "Crap." Tone had been playing the fool. He knew something like this was going to happen. A headache started to form from the screeching sirens ringing in the cockpit. The gauss slug had dug deep into the lower left leg, ripping myomer and jamming the actuator. The heavy laser did less damage, melting a pool into his mech's chest. Tony had to jump from here on if he wanted to survive this pathetic match. Priming his arsenal once again, Tony concentrated on his jogging opponent rather than on the blazing alarms. He locked on. He fired. The Gyr went down the same way as the Thor, in a white nova.

"Come on, come on. Get on with it." Tony said, angrily as he struggled to shut down some of the sensors.

Finally, his last opponent for this round stepped to the plate. It was a Kodiak. The clawed reaper was going to be a tough one to fight. Armed with a dizzying set of medium lasers, it had only to get them all to hit for the Necro Cat to be in trouble. Tony was already sweating from his previous encounters, this would be a nightmare. He limped the Necro Cat into place and waited for the Kodiak to open the fight. The opponent simply stood there, waiting. Tony blinked. Then he felt it. A massive shock. More alarms went off. When he looked back, the Kodiak was just two hundred meters away. It opened one arm, then lunged and made a swipe. The clawed hands of the Kodiak had slashed off nearly two tons of armor and had literally pulled the medium pulse laser out of the Necro Cat's chest. Tony was simply stunned. He wasn't tired, just simply stunned. He smiled. Now the fight was beginning.

Hitting the jumpjets, Tony escaped another slash and dodged an arching gauss rifle round. Aiming down, Tony fired all but the particle cannon. Each laser beam struck a different torso part, rendering armor useless or in some areas dropping it. The Kodiak didn't take a fancy to this maneuver and braced itself. Just as the Necro Cat hit the ground and began to take a hard right out of the Kodiak's line of sight, the Kodiak opened up with all of its medium lasers and a gauss rifle slug. None of them hit home. Tony felt lucky. He ran into the Kodiak, charging the assault mech with one shoulder. Before making contact, Tony pulled the trigger again. On this volley, the particle cannon tore the Kodiak's left arm off, leaving the thinner side torso armor clear for the lasers, which burned into the reactor. The pilot knew this would have happened and quickly shut his mech down, avoiding what could have been a terrible disaster.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The following test took place at 1400 hours on December 20, 3067.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tony had taken an hour's break after his test round with the Alpha model. It was indeed a powerful mech, but something wasn't right with him. He didn't use it to its maximum potential. He played the fool, plain and simple. Now it was time to start the test for the Beta configuration.

"Sir?"

Tony looked up at the tech and followed him to the Necro Cat Beta. He followed the protocol and readied his mech. Walking it into the new test site, a simulated city, Tony smiled, regarding the large structures and shining glass. He looked on his scanners and watched a red blip do the same. Switching to magscan, Tony eyed the Hellbringer about seven hundred meters away. It jinked to the left, faking the motion and darting to the right. Tony could no longer see the mech as the glass around him was reflecting the sun into his eyes. Going by sight, the Necro cat groped around the structures, checking every nook and cranny. About two minutes of searching, Tony waged on a guess that his opponent was not very far, getting closer and closer, waiting for the moment to strike. Giving into that though, Tony spun the Necro Cat around only to be face to face with a Summoner. What followed was an onslaught from both mechs. After firing every possible weapon they had, only one was left standing, the Necro Cat. Tony stared down at the Hellbringer and noted the destructive capacity of the LB-20X autocannon he was wielding. One down.

The second opponent was a Timber Wolf. The aging battlemech was one of great reputation, but on this world, in this time, at this moment, it was simply a target. Tony caught sight of the Timber Wolf early on and chased it around the buildings and through several boulevards, finally corning it. Before the mech had a chance to turn around, the Necro Cat hammered it mercilessly with 240mm. slugs and PPC fire. It went down, hard, crashing through one of the nearby structures.

"I really like this layout. Very much my style." Tony chuckled at the thought of once again becoming a mech pilot. He dismissed the notion when a new blip showed up on his passive scanners. This one wanted to be found. Waiting for the enemy, Tony chambered a cluster shell and prepped for the worst.

That worst was a Highlander IIC. It didn't care about the rubble it was stepping on, just the fact that its prey was not going anywhere. Tony sidestepped left and right, trying to keep his opponent from getting a solid lock, but he knew he couldn't keep this up. He started the match with an azure bolt of Particle beam energy while moving in, following the beam closer to the Highlander. When the gap was about four hundred meters, he sprayed the mech with flak. All the while, the Highlander was launching salvo after salvo of LRM and gauss rifle rounds. The end of this simple conflict turned out to be a draw. A lucky fragment pierced the coolant system on the highlander's core, ending its life, and a group of missiles blew out the Necro Cat's canopy, forcing Tony to eject.

Another test complete.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The following test takes place at 1700 hours on December 20, 3067.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tony Venters was pretty much exhausted now. He was pleased to know that the last test was going involve the support configuration of the Necro Cat. Now all he had to do was lob missiles. And lob he did. In a mountainous testing area, a Necro Cat Delta faced off with a Mad Dog. For the past ten minutes, all that could be seen in dusk were streaking flights of missiles flying back and forth between the two mech, highly distanced mechs. The Mad Dog went down in record time when its pilot lost concentration and failed to dodge an erratic pattern of missiles.

The second opponent was another Timber Wolf. Tony repeated the process of launching flight after flight of missiles until his ammo bin was empty. By that time, the Timber Wolf had only taken, possibly two out of seven full hits. Rounding a small hill, the Timber Wolf found itself facing a beastly Tony Venters who let fly a torrent of autocannon slugs that chopped a leg from his opponent's mech, leaving behind a heap of reverse-joint salvage.

Finally ending this test was an Inner Sphere mech, the Cyclops. This was odd because the Cyclops was a command mech, not meant for this kind of warfare. In any case, Tony didn't complain. He activated the HE ammo bin and charged the assault mech. The Cyclops did its best to avoid the stream of autocannon slugs but couldn't outmaneuver the high explosive missiles arching...circling...homing in on it. In only three bombardments, the Cyclops went down in flames.

A wide smirk spread greedily over Tony's face.

I would say, the gloves have been dropped. Will Samak and Gauntlet pick them up? Good design, I hope you might go back at a later date and backfill with some more configurations.

Samak 0 3/23/2006

Nice Job Steel Viper, I like the mech, and the fluff is good, even if you reduced Gauntlet and myself to mere bandits. The fact that the Nova Cats can concider themselves superior to the Bears gives credit to your writing ability. I would look for cover in the next contest

Ice Hellion 0 3/23/2006

I must be missing something but it seems each one of your version is missing 5 tons. Also it seems you are not having enough free critics for some of them (mostly those with the most Double Heat Sinks).
If I am right, I am sorry because it looks interesting and your fluff is nicely written too.

Warhawk 5 3/23/2006

Nice bit of fluff and the "written" slaps at both Gauntlet and Samak are a nice touch. Some deadly configurations and only the

Overview:

The Warcat is a recent addition to the Clan Nova Cat's Touman. Upon arriving in Draconis Combine space, and attaining what is now known as the Irece Prefecture, the Nova Cats began a reconstruction effort aimed at rebuilding their Touman with new technology, as well as older, cheaper designs.

The first design out of this program was dubbed the Warcat, after an old Terran warfighter that earned a reputable name. The Warcat passed a large number of tests and trials before it was produced in very limited quantities and assigned to Khan Satin West's cluster.

Capabilities:

Most clan mechs are armed with particle cannons and various lasers, the Warcat is quite similar in this aspect, however, from there the similarities end. The main cannon ports that round the ends of both arms are extended range particle cannons. These guns make for the Warcat's most lethal, long-range armament. Compounding the versatility of the Warcat was the special addition of swivel mounts in the arms that allow the pilot to laterally reverse the facing of the arm pods. This provides the pilot with a means to attack enemies who have attempted to flank and strike the mech's thinner, rear armor.

Granting the pilot more destructive power once the Warcat moves closer to its prey are the two torso-mounted LB10-X autocannons. These multi-barreled cannons have a large ammunition bin installed in the associated torso that offers twenty salvos of shotgun-like shot and ten rounds of slugs. This variaty in ammunition allows the mechwarrior to either splash his target with a nasty spray of buck-shot or puncture enemy armor full of large, deep holes at will.

The most stunning aspect of the Warcat is the massive turret hovering over the mech's body. Mounted on the turret is an augmented ER Large Laser fitted with several heatsinks and shieldings, which protects the cannon from weapon strikes. Unfortunately, the laser was not upgraded for increased combat efficiency, rather it was mounted in this way to offer both an intimidating apperance and a way of avoiding clutter on the main body.

Near maximum armor capacity and average ground mobility round off the Warcat's specifications.

Variants:

The Warcat is a sole design, without any other variants and/or modifications.

Battle History:

Khan Satin West has used the Warcat on numerous occasions against Combine forces who still dislike the clan and its presence in the Combine.

Deployment:

Within the Nova Cat Touman.

Notable Warriors:

saKhan Karl Devalis

saKhan Karl Devalis, the second-in-command of the Clan Nova Cats chose the Warcat to be his war machine after witnessing many trials prior to its production. His Warcat is painted in a moon-gray colour with a special bumped texture that mimics the landscaping of Irece and several other worlds in the Irece Prefecture. Devalis pilots his Warcat with amazing precision and is capable of overcoming its weaknesses easily.

This Mech has the ability to influct a lot of pain over an extended period of time. 100% Heat efficient and 3 tons of ammo per LB10-X give this thing great staying power on the field. Only gripe is the XL, but thats not as big of a deal with Clan Mechs as IS, and you have to trade off somewere to give this level of activity with a Mech that makes as much heat as this.

Darkone2 4 12/20/2005

Yes very good machine, I like the weapons layout, since it uses some of the most effect weapons in the Clan Aresenal

Ice Hellion 0 12/19/2005

A really nice job with a hard hitting 'Mech that follows the spirit of the Clans while showing some tricks learned from the Inner Sphere.
The fluff is in line with it and the picture is great.
Good job.

Knightmare 0 12/19/2005

You did a great job with the image. Reminds me of a Blood Asp. Well done.
cheers

Cypher Himura 5 12/18/2005

Its certainly a sturdy hard hitting design, which I admire immensely, and the lovely image is a bonus. well done
