Overview:

The Hunchback IIC Ice Hellion Model was taken out of production in the first decade of the Golden century. In 3048 as the Clans began to gear up for Operation Revival, the Hellions realized that they would need a significant number of Second line forces with which to garrison any planets they captured in the invasion. Still rebuilding from their secret civil war, the Hellions ordered the Hunchback's they had in storage taken out, updated, and that new models of the design be put into production. The factory on Hoard designated to produce the revamp ran into some trouble while retooling and only began production a month before the trials to determine the invading Clans. When the Hellions were eliminated from the Invading force the Hellion Hunchback production was cancelled after only a 100 were produced. As the Hellions Fury ran its course and the other home Clans began to retaliate the few Hunchback IIC(IH) that were in service began to show the potential of their heavily updated chasis, and the Hellions are currently looking into restarting the production line on Hoard.

Capabilities:

The Ice Hellion model Hunchback is a considerable departure from standard IIC design philosophy seen so far. Actually reducing the mech's total tonnage by 5 tons, the Hellions increased the mech top speed to nearly 100kph, allowing the Hellion Hunchback can get itself into, or out of, position with relative ease for a mech of it's tonnage. This model of the Hunchback IIC only features a single Ultra class AC/20, making it not as deadly as its more common IIC cousin. It makes up for this, like many Hellion mechs, with its mobility. The other advantage the is nearly 40% more armor than most other models of the Hunchback IIC. The addition of a Targeting computer furthur increases the effectiveness of the design, allowing a pilot to concentrate the fire for his massive weapon on a single area of an enemy mech, doing more damage on average than most Hunchback IICs.

Configuration / Variants:

The Hellion's Hunchback's Autocannon mount was built with a relatively simplistic connection, wiht the mounts designed to easily accept the Ultra-Class AC, LB-20X model AC, or Gauss Rifle with minimal effort, and the Ammunition Bins were bult to be universal, with only the Ammunition feed system needing replacement between weapons swapings. This feature has, unfortunatly, also made the mech's autocannon dangerously easy to disable in battle, as a single lucky shot can sever an important connection or shatter a vital support brace, and render the weapon ineffective.

Battle History:

The Hunchback IIC(IH) served with destinction during the earliest years of the Golden Century, however, the appearance of newer mechs lead the Hellion to stop production, and the remaining examples of it were slowly phased out of service. The new model also serves well in the Hellions touman, providing quick response in close terrain to many garrison forces throughout Clan space.

Deployment:

The short lived production run, and the refitted older model HUnchback IIC(IH) added up to just under 150 machines. These have been spread fairly evenly throughout the Hellion touman, with the largest portion going to Zeta Prime Galaxy on New Kent.

I like the idea behind the mech, and I definitely like it's increased speed. I don't know though, seems like it could use jump jets.

Still I am a huge fan of the Hunchback, and I think this one does quite well. Good Job.

Nice and simple clan refit. My only suggestion is to use an endo-steel chassis (saves you 3.5 tons). This would let you add an extra half-ton of armor (max armor, 1 extra point), 2 tons of LRM ammo (a little underammoed right now) and replace the 2xER Small Lasers with 2 more ER Medium Lasers.

Overview:

Continuing their project to recreate popular Draconis battlemechs with their advacned Clan technology, the first MAL-NC Mauler rolled off of the production lines in early 3067. No one could dispute the increase in effectiveness of the new model Mauler. With dual Gauss rifles in place of its, by any reckoning, pitiful AC/2s the Mauler-NC made several analysts sit up and take notice across the Inner Sphere.

Capabilities:

The main advance the Nova Cats made with the Mauler is the Gauss Rifles mounted in place of the original AC/2s. Although the overall range of the Gauss Rifles is 60 meters shorter than that of the AC/2s, the range loss is made up by Clan ER Large lasers. The addition of Artemis IV targeting systems to the mech's LRM15s improved those weapons efficiency.

Deployment:

The Mauler-NC is so far the most popular of the NC model mechs, almost 2 dozen have gone into service with the Nova Cat touman, and several units within the DCMS have not even bothered to wait on the Combat Trials for the mech, already placing their orders. Perhaps most surprisingly, several units outside of the Draconis Combine, including the Kell Hounds and Snords Irregulars have made inquiries towards purchasing the battlemech.

Exactly,

AC-2 = 2 damage out to Insane Range. Original Mauler had 4 of them

Gauss Rifle = 15 damage out to insane range. Mauler-NC has 2 of them.

9/10/2003  Liio
AC-2s are popguns. I calculated the bore of the AC's once:
AC-20- 120mm
AC-10- 60mm
AC-5- 30mm
AC-2- 15mm
The AC-2 is only slightly larger than a .50-Caliber MG (12.75mm) let alone an HMG!

hrm 8 rounds per gun, but at the end of 80 seconds, its enemy should be dead. Maybe 2 or 3 enemies, but I think the ammo is still a little short.

Overview
As the Ghost Bears smashed their way through the Word of Blake during the Jihad, they often found themselves in the somewhat unfamiliar terrain of dense city centers, forced to fight the blakists on their terms. While the clans were capable in such conditions, and many "S" variant Omnimechs were custom designed for such duties, they deffinetly lost the edge they typically enjoyed on the fanatics when in such areas. Seeking to regain the upper hand the scientists of the Bears reviewed the clan's available inventory and, after some deliberation, pulled a number of ancient Annihilator chassis out of storage and set about upgrading them.

Capabilities
Dubbing their new design the "Annihilator C3" the mech promised to be absolutely devastating in the confines of a city. Armed with a Quartet of LB-20X autocannons the mech was designed to use its jump mobility to find locations within a city where it could force its foe to engage at close range, and then annihilate them with a wall of shrapnel. Heavily armoured, the design's forward armour is somewhat thinner than one might expect for the tonnage it has, but this means that it's easily able to soak a Gauss slug or Heavy PPC blast to the back. A head mounted small pulse laser allows it to deal with infantry without wasting Autocannon ammunition. As a final surprise forthe blakists the mech's arm designs had their lower arm actuators removed. This means that any blakists who think they have outmaneuvered the mech will still have to deal with at least half its firepower, still nothing to sneeze at.

Deployment
The Ghost Bears currently employ slightly more than two dozen Annihilator C3s. While few warriors can dispute its effectiveness at its designated role, prejudices against non-omni mechs have been difficult to overcome. Most of those in use by the clan are kept as reserve machines, and warriors will switch into them when urban fighting is about to become an issue.

The Ghost Bears have also offered the mech's design specifications freely to any force actively engaging the Blakists, and both the Wolves-in-Exile and the Nova Cats have taken them up on their offer, if only through back room channels.

Known Variants
The Wolves-in-Exile have a few prototypes of the design they have produced, so far the only variant of this particular build. Replacing one of the torso mounted Autocannons with additional ammunition as well as an array of lasers has reduced the mech's ammunition dependancy problems, at the cost of some firepower.

30 rounds for 4 guns is only 7.5 rounds of fire. Those would be a seriously painful 7.5 rounds, tho.

This is a quad Turkey shooter. Slap a couple of these on the hull of a WarShip and "watch out!" instant god awful anti-ASF battery.

Seriously nasty close in fire, not something I'd want to face in a dark alley! Out on the open range however...
